Lunden Evergreen

He stood in contemplation. I could see him trying to think of every possibility, but yet again I couldn't read a mind like that. There was no sympathy, even with the innocent lives at hand.

When I killed someone, I did it because I held no sympathy for their crimes. The ones they committed worse than me and I was here to save and protect those lives they threatened. So if I died protecting these two innocent lives, then I'd be okay in death.

If they both had a chance I could do the right thing and be a mother for the both of them even if it meant dying.

"Lunden I'm scared," Josie opens her eyes to meet mine again and I shake my head at her.

"We don't get scared Jo... not when we have each other. Can you close your eyes for just a bit more?" My words don't fully help, but I could see it eased her. So she does as I ask and her eyes close.

"Cade... I'm asking you to rob them of a mother, cause the greatest deal of pain to Atlas. Use him in grief and get his money, if it means saving our children. Because one day I know he'll forgive me for it," Atlas would know, he wouldn't know that our baby made it out.

But one day he'd know it was to save them. He'd understand and forgive me for leaving him.

"They don't deserve me as a mother or a care taker. You know it and so do I, but don't take out my mistakes on them," He turns to Josie and steps back up the platform as time seemed to move slowly.

"You don't struggle, you don't fight. We go out that back door silently and I transport you. You don't say goodbye to her or your child. And you'll only get to keep it alive if you comply," This was my only option and for some sad reason I was grateful.

So I nod and he begins to untie the ropes tied around her. I noticed they burned the sides of her arms and legs.  He lets her go as her hands covered her eyes now.

"You move out of line, you die" The gun shifts forward towards me and he moves to signal for me to move. So I do, I walk past the corpse of my father and away from Linda and Brian.

"Walk straight and then to the left, walk down that hall and open the door. We go through the woods to a van that's waiting on the other side. This will be the last time you're ever outside, soak it in," His words are haunting, an animal with a gun behind me. Threatening my final moments with the outside world.

I look back to see Josie's eyes closed shaking in his arms and then I follow his orders. I move through the darkened path and find my way into the hall. The promised door at the end as I moved at his pace. I hold my hand against my stomach trying to keep calm.

The soft flutters could be felt, but I knew I was putting the baby into distress. I just hoped Atlas would look for me, it's all I could do. That when Cade fulfills his failed plan as hero.

Taking Verena and Atlas out of prison and freeing them. Leading the search on me and finding me dead. I hope that they know I'm still out there, and to not stop looking.
