Chapter 6: Cheesecake!

[Last week of spring of 2010]

Its been three weeks ever since Lily and Sarah started secretly dating each other; they've gotten closer than they ever had before. Whenever Lily's mom visits Lily, she would always invite Sarah for lunch or for dinner whenever she's free.

Tonight was no different, Lily's mom arrived around 5 in the afternoon while Lily was watching No Reservations, she kept on murmuring to herself how she could've done better in that role, she was too focused on the film that she didn't notice her mom entering her apartment.

"Lily?" her mom spoke softly but it made Lily almost jumped from her seat in surprise, she quickly stood up and assisted her mom, she took her mom's coat off and put it on the coat rack along with her mom's handbag.

"So, where's Sarah?" her mother asked as she sat on the couch where Lily was a while ago.

"She'll be here in a few minutes. She told me that she just finished taping an episode for Grey's Anatomy." Lily answered as she sat next to her mom.

"Mom?"

"Yes, hun?"

"How's treatment going?" Lily's question made her mom uncomfortable for a while; she wasn't prepared to answer her daughter's question. She took a deep breath and smiled at her. "It's doing well honey" she calmly said as Lily hugged her

"I was kinda worried lately mom" Lily whispered, she noticed that her mom and dad would usually visit her randomly every week, it was odd. She moved in last year but, it's only this year in which her parents would give her surprise visits every week. She was worried, her mother's been fighting leukaemia for 21-years now, she's afraid to lose her, her mom is her best friend, her shoulder to lean on whenever things gets crazy.

"Why are you worried dear?" her mom asked as she gently pulls away from her daughter's embrace and look into her eyes.

"It's just that, I can't imagine how my life would be without you mom, I mean. I look up to you and I can always be myself whenever I'm with you mom."

Her mom laughed but deep inside it was killing her, it was killing her that she has to lie to her daughter. "I'm fine, silly" her mother said as she gently pinches Lily's nose

That's when they heard a knock on the door. Lily opened the door and saw Sarah standing in front of her wearing blue skinny jeans and another striped shirt, this time it was a blue and white striped shirt.

"You never ran out of striped shirt" Lily said as she ushered Sarah inside of her apartment

"Good evening Mrs.Clayburgh!" Sarah greeted her lively as she raised her hand in a gesture of hi.

"Sarah, you can just call me aunt Jill" Lily's mom smiled at her. "I would really like that"

Sarah returned her smile and nodded "Okay, Aunt Jill"

"Have you eaten something already? What do guys want to eat?" Lily's mom asked while looking at the two.

"Mom! Let's make a cheesecake! Sarah's obsessed about it! She told me it was by far the best cheesecake she ever had!" Lily said as her mom laughed.

"I bet you're just saying that so that you can eat the whole cheesecake by yourself Lily." Her mother jokingly said as Lily pouts and frowned. "Moooom" Lily groaned, as Sarah and Lily's mom chuckled.
