She walked over to the stage with her heart thumping out loud as she was getting closer to her publicist, Arlene.
"Oh, Lily, honey!" The 5'4, 43 years old, brown haired woman squealed excitingly. "You are so amazing as always! But I've heard that by January 21, Zoe Lister-Jones will take over your role because you told Sam Gold, that you're going to be busy during those times."
Lily smiled as she nodded in response. "Yes, that's correct. Uhm... so what brings you here?" she asked with a hint of nervousness in her voice.
"Ouch, honey. That kinda' hurts, by the way that you're speaking I know that you're not delighted to see me," Arlene laughed. "Anyway, everyone is talking about the 'natural chemistry' that Mr.Linklater and you have on stage, and so I am planning that... You two are going to be a Broadway power couple!"
"What!?" Lily shot her a glare as Arlene smirked.
"Oh, you don't like it? I mean that would be so good, Imagine your name on web posts. 'Hamish Linklater and Lily Rabe, Broadway power couple to lead 'A midnight's summer's dream or whatever', I'm pretty sure that tickets would be sold out once we do that! Besides, I've already talked to Mr. David Reynolds, Hamish's Publicists, and he liked this proposal of mine, he told Hamish about it and he told me that Hamish actually agreed to it, right now we're just waiting if you'll say yay or nay."
"Nay, No, Never. I won't ever do that," Lily said firmly as Arlene looked at her confusedly as if she's asking her 'why'. "Arlene, I know that I've hired you to do things like these, but. I think this is a little bit too much. I don't want people to expect that there's an 'us' when in reality there's none."
"But com'on Lily, I think about it! People would always go to the shows that you guys will star in if we make Hamly possible!"
"Arlene, I'm not going to do that, I have to go... Sar—"
"Is it because of Sarah Paulson?" Arlene queried as she crossed her arms above her chest while looking at the blonde with a serious expression on her face. "You two were spotted together in your apartment's lobby together, and some witnesses say that, it's been going on for almost a year, so tell me...." Lily gulped as a cold sweat started to make its way down on her neck. "Is there something you're not telling me?"
"Nothing," the blonde responded, avoiding an eye contact with the publicist. "We're best friends... nothing more, nothing less."
"Then, why are you avoiding an eye contact?" The publicist asked with a hint of arrogance in her tone. "It's pretty obvious that you're hiding something, Ms.Rabe, just tell me the truth."
Lily shook her head and looked straight into the publicist's eyes. "I don't have to tell you anything, Arlene, and no matter how hard you try, you will never convince me to have that 'false relationship' with that guy." Lily firmly stated as Arlene shook her head.
"Listen, Lily, honey, I'm trying to 'make' you a star here, and nothing will change if you keep on rejecting my ideas!"
"Arlene, I know, but, I'd feel so bad deceiving people that I love him even though that I am in love with somebody else. You are a great publicist, don't get me wrong. But, it's just that lately, your proposals are far from reality, they are deceiving and you know how much I hate lying, especially to A LOT of people."
