A couple of hours later, Sarah woke up to the sound of the bedroom door creaking open. When she opened her eyes she saw Lily's parents staring down at her.
Lily's mom sat quietly by the bedside and reached out to caress her daughter's hair, looking at her with sadness in her eyes. She felt sorrow for them, she wanted to do something but she knew she couldn't do anything; this is way out of her control. The only thing that she could do right now is to be by their side.
"I need to talk to you." Lily's mother mouthed to Sarah, the brunette nods and gently lifted Lily's head from her chest and lay her down on the pillow, kissing her forehead before getting up to follow Lily's parents to the living room..
Sarah sat down on the single couch right across the 3 seater sofa where Lily's parents were.
Sarah tapped her fingers on the couch arm while staring at the floorboards, she'd never felt so nervous in her entire life.
"Sarah," Lily's dad called softly to break the silence, he took out a CD, and a piece paper and gave it to his wife. "Jill told me to give the CD to you but, she changed her mind and decided to give this personally to you."
Lily's mom smiled at Sarah as she gestured the brunette to sit next to her. Sarah nods and stood up to seat right next to Lily's mom.
Sarah gulped as she gathered all her courage to ask the question that was bothering her mind.
"Mom," her voice starts cracking, but she doesn't want to cry in front of them, she wants to show them that she could be a pillar that Lily could lean on when everything gets tough, she wants to show them that she's going to be there as their daughter's refuge when everything gets crazy, she want to show them that she's strong not only for herself but for them, especially for Lily. "How bad is it? How sick are you?"
Lily's mom shook her head with a bittersweet smile on her face.
"Please Mom, answer me," Sarah begged looking at Lily's parents still trying to keep herself calm. "Please."
"The truth?" Lily's mom said as she holds her husband's hand. "It's too bad, that I have to list down everything that I want you to do here, so that you won't forget it."
Lily's mom waved the paper in front of Sarah's face and smiled at her. "I hope you'll be able to do all of this things." she softly said, as she gave Sarah the paper along with the CD.
Sarah started to read what's written on the paper, her brows furrowed as she looked at what's written on it. "Why are you giving this to me, instead of giving this one to Lily?"
"Because we trust you, Sarah," Lily's father said "I can see the way you look at my daughter, the way you smile when you look at her, and I can tell that you're madly in love with her, and I know you'll do whatever it takes to make her happy. And Lily, you saw her a while ago right? She can't handle this by herself, she needs us, she needs you."
"Can we count on you, Sarah?" Lily's mom asked Sarah gave her a nod and a smile in response. "Can you read the list aloud?"
Sarah took a deep breath before reading what was written on the paper.
