Chapter 6: Ships and Showers
(a/n) If you guys are enjoying this, you should totally check out my new story "Lyric Locked". It's humorous and ridiculous like this, and it also contains loads of trouble. Sorry for the second self-promotion, continue on!
"No more night shifts?" I asked for clarification.
"No more night shifts," Allison confirmed. "They're obviously not going anywhere anytime soon, other than southeast Oregon, so we don't have to waste our precious sleep on them."
"I like the way you think," I approved. "Now let's get some rest. I've got a big day of driving ahead of me, whoopee."
"I've got a big day of getting the boys to fall for me tomorrow," my crazy friend said dreamily.
"Uh huh, yeah," I muttered. I laid down on my bunk and drew the curtain mostly closed. "Good night, Ally Al."
"Good night, Lucy."
"Seriously, don't call me that."
It didn't take long for Allison to fall asleep. It was like she didn't have a guilty conscience, like everything she was doing was perfectly legal. I almost wished that I was like that, that ignorance was bliss, but then I remembered that I should be grateful for my morals. Being guilty made me human. Allison was turning into something a little less than that.
Hours seemed to pass, and I still didn't get to sleep. I gave up after a few more minutes, and I decided to walk around. I saw the time on the alarm clock, and my eyes widened. It was almost eleven at night. How could it be that early? I thought that it would be at least two or three in the morning by now.
Most of the boys were still awake. Ashton was asleep, but that was all. I forgot that Luke was an insomniac of some sort, and Calum and Michael seemed to be having a silent conversation with their eyes. They didn't see me come in, so I cleared my throat. All eyes flew to me, and I went over to them.
"I think now is the time for your shower," I said as I cut off Calum's bonds. "Just try not to make too much noise, okay?"
He sneezed.
"Like that. Bless you."
"Thanks. A lot."
He stood up and went into the bathroom. I sat down on his chair and rubbed my eyes tiredly. I wanted to sleep, but my body simply said no. Well, more like my mind. It was always taunting me with the awful truth: I was a criminal, and my life was ruined as soon as I got caught.
Luke mumbled something. I glanced at him dully. "I'm not in the mood," I said. He tried again, and I glared at him. "Oh, what the heck?" I caved in and peeled off his mouthpiece halfway.
"He likes you," Luke smirked.
I frowned. "Who?"
"Calum. The guy who's showering right now."
"Yeah, I know who Calum is," I said sharply. "And he doesn't like me. He just likes the fact that I'm trying to free you guys. He probably hates me in real life."
"And you like him," Luke said, as though I'd never spoken a word.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Is this what you do in your free time? Make up imaginary ships that will never sail?"
"Ralum," Luke mused. "No, Reelum. Um, Ceese. No, wait, I've got it! Caese. You know, like cease, but with switched vowels."
"You're a moron," I muttered. "And I was just starting to like you. Not in that way, you dip stick!"
