Chapter 32: Devils and Crushes
(a/n) I think that I'm going to make this story under forty chapters. Is that a good goal? I'm kind of running out of ideas....
P.S. I love Calum with all my heart and soul, he's such a cutie pie, so don't hate me for his mood swings and crankiness in this story. XD
P.P.S. OMG THE PATD CONCERT WAS SO GOOD BRENDON SANG ALL OF MY FAVORITE SONGS AND PLAYED THE GUITAR AND DRUMS AND PIANO AND SANG BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY AND DID A FRIGGIN BACKFLIP OFF THE DRUMKIT PODIUM AND OH MY GOSH IT WAS SO GOOD AND PETE WENTZ POSTED ABOUT IT ON HIS INSTAGRAM CAN YOU HEAR MY SOBS
It took me a while to get better from my fever. I couldn't yell for a couple weeks since my throat would clog up, and for the first week I coughed nonstop. But everyone chipped in a little to make me feel better--and by everyone, I mean me, myself, and I. Michael would bring me glasses of orange juice sometimes since that's all he knew, Ashton would give me cough drops whenever my fits were bad, and RJ would cuddle with me if I was ever feeling down. But I was feeling much healthier by the end of July.
I was terrified because we were in Wyoming and on the brink of August. The boys had been kidnapped for about three months now, and we were closer than ever to Allison's destination. Chances to let them go were growing slim, and I didn't know what to do. Lallison was still together, my crush on Michael made my chest hurt, and I felt like my issues with Calum hadn't quite been resolved yet. The only person who didn't have any problems was Ashton, and I was incredibly jealous of him.
"Can we go to Devils Tower?" Michael asked as he played with RJ.
"What's that?" Allison said curiously.
"I visited it a couple years ago with my family," I said, glancing up from Michael's iPad. "Basically, a really long time ago, magma rose straight up from the earth's crust and hardened. It's like the remnants of a volcano or something."
"Thanks for that science lesson, Ms. Ortega," Ashton said with a roll of his eyes.
"I want to go because it was in 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'," Michael said. He rolled over while RJ just stared at him with her head leaning to one side.
"That's a mouthful," I said. "Isn't that a movie or something?"
"Yep," Calum said, coming in from the kitchen. "We own it."
"Of course you do."
"So can we go?" Michael asked me eagerly, clasping his hands together.
I sighed. "No, we can't. It's too far out of the way. It'd be a waste of time, money, and gas."
He moaned. "Please, Reese? Pretty please! I really want to go!"
"You're such a child!" I exclaimed. "Do you always throw a fit whenever you don't get what you want?"
"Yes," he stated, and then he proceeded to pound his fists against the ground and whine at me like a little kid. "I wanna go!"
Luke came over and sat next to me, pulling RJ into his lap. "It might not be a bad idea. RJ really needs to go for a walk and get potty-trained, anyway."
"Yes!" Calum agreed loudly, making me jump. "I'm tired of her leaving little surprises in my bunk!"
"Aw, you just love Calum so much, don't you?" I pouted to the puppy playfully, and she butted her head against my chin.
"I wanna go!" Michael wailed, still acting immaturely.
"Make it stop!" Ashton cried, covering his ears with his hands. "Reese, shut him up!"
