Chapter 8: Malls and Fights

(a/n) I just got back from a mission trip to Nebraska, so that's why this update is so late. Sorry about that. :/ But I've got great news! While I was gone, my parents got me TICKETS TO SEE 5SOS IN ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA ON JULY 31!!! OMG YES I WAS SO HAPPY I ALMOST CRIED!! Only I didn't because I was driving on the highway when they told me. But if any of you guys are going to that concert, we should totally hook up. Just wanted to share that with y'all, in case you cared. Now read on, my beautiful people!

I woke up mid-dream scream from a horrible nightmare. It probably didn't help that I had watched "Joe Dirt" with the boys last night on Calum's iPad. Even though that movie was anything but scary, it had its moments.

I had a dream that Allison was Buffalo Bob, and she wanted to wear the boys' skin. Throughout the whole thing, she was yelling at them to put on the lotion, and they weren't taking it seriously enough, and I was screaming for her to stop and for them to escape and wrenching against my bonds. I had been tied to a post, and it was horrible. I couldn't breathe, but I had screamed anyway.

"Hey, Reese, are you okay?" a voice asked me.

I yelped and jumped, banging my head against the roof of the tour bus. I groaned in pain and rubbed my forehead furiously, a pounding headache already setting in. I looked up and gasped, scrambling to get away from my crazy friend.

"Buffalo--I mean, Allison!" I rasped. I cleared my throat and swallowed hard. "Y-yeah, I'm fine. I'm perfectly okay."

She frowned down at me. "Are you sure? You look whiter than a ghost."

"Yeah, uh, I just had a nightmare," I mumbled, avoiding her gaze. "Don't worry about it, I hardly remember it now."

"Oh, good. Now let's get going. We've got a long road trip ahead of us."

I nodded and rolled out of bed. I traipsed to the kitchen, yawning widely. The boys were awake, but they didn't greet me. Good, they weren't supposed to. I had a bowl of cereal and sat down at the wheel. I turned the car on, pulled out of the parking lot, and continued on our way to southeast Oregon.

I found a map of the United States in the glove compartment, and I smiled in relief. I also found a black pen in the cupholder. I marked a big, black "x" right where we were on the map: just entering Iowa. Great, now we only had about five more states to go. Well, I'd always dreamed of traveling the country, and now was the opportune time to do so.

It only should've taken us a little more than a day to arrive at our destination. I had looked up the length of the journey on Calum's iPad, and it was only twenty-eight hours between here and Oregon. As long as we avoided any trouble, we would be fine.

But that was just the problem, however. We had to be the unluckiest people on the planet, because we encountered so many obstacles, it took us four months to get there. Four freaking, tortuous months.

"Let's do this," I murmured to myself, planting my foot on the gas.

And that's when everything seemed to go wrong at once.

"I have an idea!" Allison proclaimed.

"What?" I asked, fixing my eyes on the road.

"Let's go shopping."

I frowned. "Shopping?"

"Yeah, shopping."

"But why? We have all the food we need."

"Not clothes," Allison reminded me. "As much as I love wearing the boys' things, I need my own fashion outfits. All of this stuff is out of date, and it's kind of embarrassing."
