Chapter 13: Mysteries and Kisses
(a/n) Pause for note-taking! What's your favorite ship? Who do you think Reese is most compatible with? Least compatible? What about Allison? Your opinions matter very much to me for this story, so if you could answer these questions, that would be great. Thanks for all of your help! :)
P.S. Another one of the categories in the 5SOS Wattys by @kingsinbands opened up, and it's called ARTISTIC COVER. I totally forgot that I submitted my story under that category lol, but if you could vote for me, that would be incredible. :) Just follow my previous instructions that I put in the last chapter, only this time please vote for me under ARTISTIC COVER and UNDISCOVERED GEMS. Thanks so much for all of your help! :)
"How much do I owe you?" I asked, hiding a yawn behind my hand.
"Ah...." The man behind the counter tapped a few keys on his register, coming up with the total. "One hundred and thirty-five thousand dollars."
"Wow," I remarked, handing over a credit card. I didn't know whose it was. "You must make a nice living."
"Most people rent a bus for three or four days, not three or four months."
"Give or take a few days," I said defensively. "You have no idea what it's like to be on a road trip that you don't even want to be on for three or four months."
He looked unimpressed. "I work for a bus company."
"Touché."
"Here's your card," he said, handing it back to me. "Uh... Mr. Michael Clifford?"
Oh, so that's the credit card I had chosen. "That's a good boyfriend right there," I said with a nod. "Letting his girlfriend rent a bus on his credit card. I might buy a gold tooth or diamond necklace next."
The man sighed and handed me a receipt. "Why do I even ask?"
"Pleasure doing business with you, Quentin," I said, reading his name-tag. "Thanks for the bus."
"You're welcome. Good luck with the road trip, and send your boyfriend my condolences."
"Will do."
I left the rental shop with a skip in my step, but not because I was happy. I was forcing myself awake because I was absolutely exhausted. I hadn't gotten a wink of sleep last night thanks to my super guilt and insomnia. It didn't help that it turned out Ashton and Michael snored like a couple gorillas on steroids. It was unlike anything I had the displeasure of hearing before.
"Hey, Allison," I called, boarding the old tour bus. "I've rented a new bus, so let's get the boys out of here."
"Alright," she said, snipping the air with her scissors.
"Oh, and the cashier guy sends his condolences to Michael Clifford," I added. The black-haired boy's brow furrowed in confusion. "He thinks that I'm a horrible girlfriend for spending one hundred and thirty-five thousand dollars on a bus for a road trip that I don't even want to be on. And he's right."
Michael mumbled against his duct tape with eyes as big as saucers, and he attempted to charge at me. I easily stuck my foot out and tripped him up. He didn't try to attack me again.
Allison set the others free--well, sort of. The boys' legs were allowed to move, but their hands were tied behind their backs and their mouths were still restrained. We had to board them on the new bus before anyone saw how they were tied up, but I wasn't really concerned about that.
It appeared that we were accidentally in Missouri, which was underneath Iowa, and no one was around for the next hundred miles. My goal had been Nebraska or South Dakota at the very least, but we had no such luck. I wasn't very surprised about that.
