FLASHBACK
"Minji, how long have you been in love with Haerin?" Yunjin asks her.
"What? What do you mean? YOU WERE THERE WHEN I WAS TELLING YOU!" Minji says, yelling at Yunjin.
Yunjin shakes her head at Minji. This girl really is dense.
"Like you never felt like you liked her before? Like when you guys were kids?" Hanni joins in the conversation. She can't help Minji here, because the signs have obviously been there.
"Uhh no? Like we were close and all since we were just a year apart but I don't think I felt anything towards her, I felt closer to her back then than I did with Hyewon. She's a really nice and sweet girl once you get to know her, she has this little cute quirk that she does whe–" Minji stops herself from talking. Her face looks mortified.
"Oh my god. FUCK" Minji says to herself. Gears are finally turning in her head. She looks at her friends and looks like she wants them to do something. Anything.
"Nononononononono. There's no way. Absolutely not. I'm okay with crushing on her but in love?! Fuck that." Minji is now talking to herself. Her friends watch as she fights with her internal monologue.
End of flashback.
Minji looked like a zombie. She hasn't slept all that well for the past few days, her family is supposed to be arriving tonight. Winter break is supposed to start tomorrow but she doesn't know if she'll survive by then.
It's been weeks since Minji had that talk with Yunjin and Hanni. She's still distraught over the revelation that she was in love with Kang Haerin. She replays all the memories in her head and she tells herself that it was normal. She wasn't in love with Haerin, they were just very close friends. She asks herself when did the lines become so blurred in their friendship? Was it when she felt giddy every time Haerin came over to talk to her? Or when Haerin would talk, she'd only focus on her lip–. Minji stops herself from thinking. That was enough thinking for today. She has to deal with her family tonight and she can't afford to be distracted.
As Minji grabs her books from her locker, she feels someone's arms snake around her waist. The person turns her around and she's met with Sunghoon's smile. He leans down and pecks her on lips, a few students stare out of envy. They've become the school's IT couple since Sunghoon kissed Minji on the lips in front of everyone at school. Before they kissed, alot of people assumed that they were just in the talking stage and that they weren't going to last, hoping to get a chance with at least one of them. But with Sunghoon kissing her in front of everyone, they seemed to get the hint that the two were in a solid relationship now and there's no chance for them at all.
"Good morning, Baby. Rough night? Sunghoon asks her sweetly, he's been extra sweet towards her lately. After her talk with her friends, she finally called Sunghoon and explained half the situation to him. Not about Haerin though, she's not ready for that, but about her parents, she told him that she was just in a lot of stress because of it and she's sorry that she's been neglecting him. Sunghoon was understanding and told Minji that it was okay, her family is more important and that he'll try his best to be the best supporting boyfriend that he could be.
Boyfriend. Minji feels guilty. She knows that she should probably end it with Sunghoon soon but she doesn't know how. He's such a great guy, he hasn't done anything wrong. It was all on Minji's side. Yunjin and Hanni both had suggested to keep the relationship going if she's certain of forgetting about Haerin but Minji doesn't want to use Sunghoon like that.
"Mhm. I couldn't really sleep last night. They'll arrive tonight and will be here until the New Year so im really sorry if don't get to talk or hang out with you during break" Minji tells him, he grabs hold of her hands and start making their way to class, Sunghoon has made it a habit to always walk her to class now. She hasn't seen Yunjin or Hanni today since her Uncle took her to school.
