In the parking lot of the employees there was a dark brown, run-down truck when Katie arrived at the station, because she wanted to work a little more today.
"Sorry parking only for employees, but they can," she said as she approached the truck, but what she had not expected was that the driver of this truck pointed a gun at her. "No sound. Do exactly what I say. Right hand up. Left now gets the radio out of her pocket." he instered her and Katie did what he said in an exemplary manner so that he didn't shoot her right away. "Set it on the seat," he said when she got it out of her handbag and she somehow looked around for help, but she didn't find one in the parking lot that could help her.
"Hey. This is where the music plays. Radio off!" The driver repeated again angrily. So she did what he said. "And now put the bag away. On the ground with it," he demanded and still held the gun on her. When that was also done, she should get into the truck and close the door.
"And now to the back. Don't even think about attacking me, lady." he threatened. But when she entered the back part, she was frightened. There was a bomb connected to all the barrels that were also there. If she did something wrong, the whole truck would fly into the air. And everything within a radius of 2 approx. Blocks.
"Do you see the handcuffs there? Put them on," he said, pointing to the handcuffs that were fastened to the wall with one side. "Eng. 'Come on!' His weapon turned closer and closer to her when he now also got up and ran towards her. So she sat down on the floor and handcuffed her wrist.
"Do you know what that is?" He wanted to know, so he took something in his hand, but Katie couldn't quite recognize what that was. But when she saw that a red light began to light up on the bomb, it became clear to her. "This is a dead man switch."
"Exactly. If something doesn't go the way I want, I let go and it makes BOOM. If they want to play the heroine, I let go and it does BOOM. And just look at me stupidly once I let go..." he explained. "And it makes BOOM. understood. I don't cause them any trouble, I just want to survive the thing, they also." Katie finished the sentence.
"They probably have quite strong motivations why they are doing this here," Katie suspected, but she still didn't understand why in front of the police station. And above all why exactly this.
"Shut up. The two of us will certainly not be friends. Now get your supervisor to the device." demanded and handed her the radio.
"Sergeant Grey, this is Detectiv Winters. Go on channel 9," she said. "Winters. I hope it's important," the addressed replied a little annoyed. "And whether it is," said the stranger as he grabbed the radio from Katie's hands. "Who is that?" Grey was worried about Katie, because the two had been working together for so long that she was almost like a daughter for him. "The guy in the parking lot is standing with an ammonium nitrate bomb. The enough power to turn their department and surroundings into a crater. If they think I'm lying, they ask their Detective Winters," he said and turned to the brown-haired woman. "I can confirm that, sir." it came out of her mouth. "Your first instinct will be to evacuate the building, but you can forget that. I have cameras at every exit. Did they understand me? If anyone leaves, everyone will die."
"I can confirm the cameras Sarge." sighed Katie after discovering the camera shots on the man's tablet, and leaned her head against the wall of the truck.
"Your next instinct will be to neutralize me, but explain to him why this would be a mistake," he said and held the radio to his prisoners again. "Our assassin has a dead man switch." so it came from her.
"Okay, I'm all ear. Tell me what I can do." Grey tried to defuse the situation. "I would like them to correct a big judicial error. I demand the immediate release of Donald Feltt from the prison in Primedale." demanded the still foreigner. "Wait." it came and then it was briefly silent on the line.
"Are we talking about Donald Feltt who is serving a life sentence for murder and drug trafficking?" Grey said shortly afterwards. "Exactly that. And no exit through the back door. Feltt is leaving prison today." now they knew at least what the stranger wanted from them. "They demand not a little. And that takes time," Grey reported and the stranger agreed. "All right."
Then there was a while of silence between Grey, Katie and the stranger, who seemed somehow sad. Meanwhile, Grey evacuated everyone to the underground car park to the security level. Tim had tried to persuade Grey that he once spoke to Katie and the unknown, but had given in after 5 minutes of discussion with his boss.
"Everything okay?" That's why Katie wanted to know. Sure, he held her hostage, but maybe he wasn't doing so well. "Everything is fine." he gave her back as a short answer. "You really risk a lot for this Feltt. He must be very important to them. Why was he falsely accused?" Katie tried to start a conversation. "I said we won't be friends," he replied and started from the windshield. "I only make the best of the situation," she sighed. "Then they leave it," he demanded and she already shut up.
"Is this access from a chemo? My aunt also had one. Colon cancer," she asked curiously when she discovered the access on his chest through the rear-view mirror. "Pancreas." he answered and Katie apologized for asking him at all.
"It doesn't have to be. That means I have nothing to lose," he said, pointing to the dead man switch. "Oh then. They die and with their last day they drag hundreds of people to death?" Katie asked stunned. "They only die if their sergeant doesn't stick to the deal. It's a question of perspective," he replied. "Then they help me to understand theirs."
