Ellie reached the 9th month now. I dropped out of playing for Arsenal and stay home the entire time. They could be here every second. I know Ellie is hoping for it. She said that they should hurry up every day. She wasn't really up for much body contact in the last days but yesterday she almost begged me for sex because she read that it would increase the labour. So we had sex but nothing happened. It seems like they need a bit more time.
"Leah? Leah, wake up?" I feel Ellie shaking my body. I slowly open my eyes and roll over. It's in the middle of the night. I hope she is okay.
"What's going on?" I ask in a sleepy voice.
"It's happening. My water broke. They are coming." She says. I'm awake now. I immediately shoot up from the bed.
"What? Now? They are coming now?" I panic. I need to clam down but I can't.
"Probably not now. They won't just run out of me, Leah. Calm down." Ellie says. At least she is calm. I on the other hand try to think about everything I read to help her now. I jump out of bed to get dressed.
"Are you in pain?" I ask.
"Yeah." She says like it's obvious which it is. I quickly put on my shirt and put my hair up.
"Okay... okay. I packed a bag for this. I know what to do." I try to calm myself down.
"Leah, please calm down. We don't need to rush that fast. I will be fine." Ellie says. She stands in front of me and gives me a kiss. I didn't expect her to kiss me now.
"We are having our babies now." She says at me with a smile. I have to smile at that too. We are having our babies. I grab the bag that we packed already and make my way downstairs. My heart is racing as I get into that car. Ellie slowly comes out of the house. She is a bit slow on her feet and I know she is in pain. She gets into the passenger seat.
"Can you really drive? You seem to be very nervous." She says.
"I'm totally fine." I say even tho I'm probably not. It's still dark as we start to drive. I drive a bit faster as usual. Ellie is holding on to the door next to her as I look over at her.
"Leah, do you need both hands to drive?" She asks me.
"No. Why?"
"Because I could really use your hand now." She says under pain. I immediately hold my hand over and she takes it. She is breathing heavily. She squeezes my hand pretty hard already.
"Maybe it won't take that long after all." She says. I get scared. I don't want my sons to be born in our car. I speed up a bit more since I want to make it to the hospital in time.
"We are almost there." I say at Ellie. We pull up in front of the hospital and I help Ellie out of the car. She is still strongly holding my hand.
"It's worse than I thought." She says under pain. I already feel bad for her. This will probably take a lot longer. We go inside and I rush to the reception and tell them what's up in hurry. Ellie gets taken into a wheelchair and brought into a room where we wait for the doctor. I sit by her side and stroke her hand gently.
"Leah, can you please calm down. You are making me crazy with that." She says. I try my best to stay calm.
"I'm sorry." I say and kiss her forehead. The doctor comes in a few minutes later.
"So Ellie how are you feeling?" She asks.
"Not so good. I feel like they are about to burst out of me." Ellie says.
"Okay, let's check." The doctor says. She checks the baby with the ultrasound. They are completely fine. Then she checks Ellies cervix. I stay by her side the entire time. I know this isn't comfortable for her.
