"What could this fucking meeting be about that needs me at seven thirty in the morning?" Sabi ko habang kausap ang ibang executives sa video call.
I learned about the news when Hilda called me at six in the morning and then called my father right after. It was a disaster from that point onwards. I watched how Hera walked out of my unit. Of my life like I wanted to. After she told me she loved me. She fucking loves me. But I broke her heart immediately right after. Because that's what I'm good at. Failing people and breaking things. Her heart included. The hurt in her eyes will forever haunt me but she's better off without me. A fucking failure.
"There has been a data breach reported," alangan na sabi ng Chief Information Officer namin. "There have been reports of their accounts being leaked to various websites for the past hours."
I scanned the participants when I noticed something. "Where's Lawrence?"
"We...can't contact him. We were actually hoping you could get hold of him."
I muttered a curse before dialling his number. No answer. I remembered about him going offline for God knows how long. But we need him now, especially with his recent appointment as the new Chairman and CEO.
"I can't reach him too." I sighed.
This is going to be a long day.
After three hours of what seemed like endless meetings, I tried reaching Enchong again to no avail. I could have thrown my phone on the wall if I didn't really need it right now.
I called in the Chief Information Officer to get the facts and send them to me ASAP. I know I am the Chief Financial Officer but I take over Enchong's work if he's not around like right now.
When I saw my father calling, I took a deep breath and answered the damn call.
"Where the hell is your twin?" He barked at me.
"God, I wish I knew what to tell you." My messages to Enchong are still unread. I honestly don't know! He didn't tell me where he was going the last time we talked. He just told me he wasn't boarding any plane. He must be in some secluded province on the country and if there's one thing Philippines is good at, it's bad cell services.
"Are you not in the same country, Enteng? Have you not been talking to your brother?"
"I visited him a few days ago, Dad. He said he would go offline. He didn't tell me when he'll be back." I pulled my hair in frustration. Of all the days Enchong will go missing!
"He should be the one handling this. He should know by now what to do. Ano bang alam mo sa ganito?"
"Well guess who else isn't helping right now? Oh right, you. Now, let me do my fucking job if you won't get your hands on this mess. I'll look for Enchong, don't worry. I won't let your golden child vanish." I hung up and leaned on my chair. My CIO has not come back to me with any developments.
I dialled Winter's number to ask him for help. I have recommended his services before instead of renewing the external security company we have now but my father denied thinking I am only giving jobs and money to my friends. Didn't he know that Winter's company is made up of highly specialised professionals in cybersecurity too?
"Enteng." He said, acknowledging me.
"Winter, I need your help." I gave him a quick rundown on the issue.
"Let me set up a call with you. Can Willa join? She has some experience with data breaches before."
"Sure. I need all the help I can get."
