I bit back another whimper trying to fight its way out and try to stay focused on the cells in the microscope before me, flinching as I felt another muscle cramp in my back. "You good girl?" Ella. my best friend in the pathology department and coworker asked me. "As good as I can be." I sighed. "I'm asking cause you don't seem good and I've been watching you flinch and stifle whimpers for like 2 hours now, so I know you're lying." She crossed her arms defiantly. "Time of the month." I replied. "Oh I feel, you. You know if it's that bad you should just go home." Ella offered gently. "Going home doesn't save the patients." I pointed out. "Another for the list." She chuckled and shook her head. "What list?" I ask curious. "The list of reasons I have why you and Conrad are perfect for each other." She grinned. "And how does this situation add another reason?" I quip brow cocked. "Y'all to damn stubborn, would do anything to save patients even if it's hurting your dumbasses." Ella jested. "Yeah, Yeah, c'mon back to work." I chuckled back turning back to my work station. Another hour crawls by punctuated by me fighting back cramps. "That's it." Tina my boss says gently placing a hand on my shoulder. "What is?" I ask politely. "I've been watching you sit here and suffer, go home, take the rest of the day off." She informs. "But-" I start she cuts me off, "No buts, that's an order, you have tons of unused sick days, you're fine. We can handle the labs." Tina scolds gently. "Okay, but if Conrad wonders where I am, please don't tell him, his patients need him, but if he knew I was being sent home sick, he'd drop everything." I plead. "Got it, I'll try, but he's like a dog with a bone that one, if he senses something's up, he doesn't leave it alone." Tina chuckles warmly. "Yeah I don't think he knows how to leave things alone." I smile. "Now go, and if you're still hurting tomorrow stay home." She points sternly. "Yes ma'am." I nod and relent. I say my goodbyes to Ella and poke my head into the hallway to check if the coast is clear. It almost feels like a lame mission impossible mission making it to the locker room without being seen, but I made it. I changed as quickly as the pain would allow, placing my scrubs in a tote bag to take home and launder. I slipped the hoodie I stole from Conrad over my head and sling my purse over my shoulder. Poking my head back into the hallway I then make my escape. Successfully dodging three of our coworkers that I knew worked closely with Conrad, I plopped into my car. By the time I made the short drive to Conrad and I's shared place, it was all I could do to drag myself out of the car, through the front door, to the kitchen taking a painkiller, gulping down the water and collapsing onto the couch, pulling my legs into my chest curling into a ball. I pulled a pillow over my face and groaned aloud. I contemplated getting up and getting my heating pad, but that task seemed monumentally too much at the moment. So I settled for whimpering on and off pathetically in the fetal position for now.

Conrad's POV: "Yo, yo got a blood draw for ya, need a full work up please." I smiled at Ella, y/n's best friend before looking around for my girl. I could feel a slight frown form on my face as she was nowhere to be seen. "Hey Ella, where's y/n?" I asked curiously. I was a tad disappointed because getting to see y/n even if only for a few minutes was one of the reasons I loved dropping off samples to the lab, plus I have been known to be protective over the ones I love. But who wouldn't be? "Chill Conrad, before smoke comes out your ears, I can see the gears turning in your head, you just missed her, she ran to the little girls room." Ella explained prepping the test. "Oh, okay. I'll just see her later then, tell her I said hi." I smiled even though something was telling me something was off, but I shook it off for now. "Will do soldier, will do." Ella gave a little half salute as I did the same before walking away.

Your POV: "Who...Who is texting meeee." I groan rolling over and checking that there's no emergency. I snickered to myself once I saw the text from Ella: Conrad Check in count 1 excuse used: you were in the bathroom... Suspicion level: non-existent expect more lol, I could practically see the alarm bells beginning to ring. I typed out a response: Quick thinking, thanks for covering. Then a text from Conrad: Just missed ya at path, love you. Love you too. I replied.
