Before I could even wake up the next day, I was already dressed and asleep in a car. The sound of conversation woke me up.
"Dr. Saltzman, this van is very... white of you," says Kaleb
"It's retro," says Ric
"What's happening?" I ask
"Oh, you're awake. We're going monster searching," says Lizzie
"Did I just teleport in here?" I ask
"No? You walked with us into the van. You feeling alright?" asks Lizzie
"Yeah, I was probably just half asleep..." I say, I do remember walking into a van, but I thought I was dreaming 🤷♀️
Hope sits up next to me, "I brought snacks."
"Oh, sweet. Did you pack them before or after you decided to FOMO your way onto our trip?" asks Lizzie
"Lizzie, be nice..." I say
"Like I'm gonna let you guys chase monsters without me?" asks Hope
"I would've thought you wanted to spend the break third wheeling as Y/n and her hipster boyfriend cuddle," says Lizzie
"Here they go again..." I say
"Sorry for wanting to protect the outside world from my mistakes. You know, there's currently an urn on a river cruise spreading plagues across America because I thought a unicorn was cute. It's called accountability. Maybe there's a bracelet for it," says Hope
"Or maybe you just wanted to ruin yet another Saltzman spring break," says Lizzie
"She didn't ruin the first one," I say
"When have I ever ruined a spring break?" asks Hope
"Girls, we're gonna be in this classic automobile for six hours, alright? So, no bickering," says Ric
"6 hours??" I ask
"It would help if it wasn't a thousand degrees in here, I'm burning up," says Hope
"You're burning up... Now, that's ironic," says Lizzie
"What does that even mean?" asks Hope
"Long story..." I say
"Don't play dumb. I see you. I see right through you," says Lizzie
"I don't know what you're talking about. What happened to playing nice?" asks Hope
"Y/n, care to help out a bit?" asks Lizzie
"You'd be surprised at how unnecessary this conversation really is," I say
"Over. Done. I'm getting back to me. I am who I am... Right Josie?" asks Lizzie
"At least you're not some fake bitch," I say
"Josie??" asks Lizzie, Josie takes off her headphones, "Sorry?"
"Josie, you cannot leave me alone with just her for company," Lizzie refers to Hope.
"Guess I'm invisible," I say
"Sorry, but you and Hope are practically besties," says Lizzie
"No need for the word 'practical', we Y/n and I are besties," says Hope, holding my hand.
"Well, I get carsick if I don't listen to music," says Josie
"Josie!" says Lizzie, and they start a fight.
"Guys, easy!" I say, Ric honks, "Girls! There's no reason to be tense or awkward, okay? Now, knock it off. We're gonna get through this together. God, help us all..."
