yn looked around the coffee shop for the millionth time, hoping that aran would finally walk through the door. they were supposed to meet for a gossip session.

at the very least, that was the official reason yn wanted them to meet. there were some topics that should be discussed in person, and yn felt that even a hundred exclamation marks in a text weren't enough to accurately express how excited she was.

after a long ten minutes of waiting for her best friend to show up, aran walked into the coffee shop. yn immediately raised her hand and waved to him. she always sat in the same spot, it would be shocking to see her in any other corner. if the seats were taken, she would've rather wait half an hour or leave than sit somewhere else.

it was her favourite spot, and she hated the changes.

"so? how was it?" aran asked before taking his first sip of the iced tea that waited for him on the table. it was an unusual choice for the beginning of january, but he enjoyed cold beverages no matter of the weather.

yn hidden a smile for a moment, pretending she had no idea what aran was asking about. they'd known each other for years, so her attempt to cover up what she really wanted to talk about was obviously unsuccessful.

"amazing," she said, letting out a squeal immediately after.

the date she had last night was absolutely amazing. it was her tenth date with this guy, they had been dating for three months with a brief break during the christmas break, when he returned home and they couldn't talk much, which yn was perfectly fine with, he was spending time with his family, so he couldn't be on the phone all the time, and he had more important things to do during christmas and new year's than text her.

this time they went out to eat, he took her to a nice restaurant to make up for their time apart. they later went for a walk, which was really nice. she was a little cold, but she expected it because she was wearing a short dress, so it was fine.

then she returned home, and he even texted her to see if she arrived safely, which was very nice of him.

"this time it's serious, i feel it," she finished with a smile.

and aran couldn't believe his ears.

yn was always like that, the most helpless romantic he had ever met. she went out with a lot of guys, and every time one of them stayed for more than a week, she was sure she had finally found the love of her life.

that's how much she wanted to be loved. always willing to settle for someone who does the bare minimum, and always looking for the best in even the smallest gestures.

it's not that yn didn't know her worth, she did, and she was very aware of it. she was also the first to point out to her friends that their significant others were mistreating them, and she was very vocal about what a real relationship should look like and how women should be treated in the world of men.

but every time a guy made her feel wanted for more than a week, as if he saw anything more than her pretty face, she became blinded until he dumped her.

she really wanted to feel loved.

"yn..." aran began, clearing his throat to give himself more time to figure out which of the many things she had already heard to say.

"no, this time it's real, aran," she said, knitting her brows, making her look desperate to be believed and understood. "i know what you're going to say, but really, this time, this will be for life," she said, nodding to herself as if she were convincing her own brain rather than his.

"i just want you to be happy, you know that," he sighed.

"i am happy," she responded right away. it felt that a second delay in responding could show that she was doubting it. she wasn't, she was very happy. "how was practice today?"

aran sighed. change of topic was a tactic that yn used often, when she got uncomfortable. and, as much as he wanted to talk to yn about it more, explain to her for the thousandth time that she's worth more and will find it someday without throwing herself at every guy who looked at her longer, aran hated making her feel uncomfortable. if he had to choose someone who didn't deserve anything bad in their lives, yn was most likely the person he would choose.

"great," he said, softly smiling at her and moving on from the previous conversation.

maybe this time he won't have to have that 'i told you so' moment.
