"put that down," yn said, almost gasping in disbelief as she watched akaashi take a garlic powder packet from the shelf. "you think miss ojiro would use powdered garlic?"

akaashi looked at her and pursed his lips together. cooking with yn was a pleasure, she taught him a lot, but shopping before cooking with her... she was stricter than he had imagined, but it was most likely miss ojiro speaking through her.

"i hate how peeling garlic makes my hands feel..." he said, setting the packet down with disappointment.

"oh, baby," yn cooed, dropping her strict persona. "you should've told me the last time i made you peel it!"

"it's not a big deal," he said, smiling sheepishly.

he never imagined to be with someone who would keep up with all the weird quirks he had. he knew that yn was one of the most understanding people he ever met, but he still had trouble with complaining over such a small and silly things like what he just said.

"we can use the powder or i can peel it," she said, ignoring his slight embarrassment. everything was a big deal for her if it involved akaashi. "is that okay?" she asked, making sure. when he felt bad about something, yn always gave him options to choose from, but left the decision for him.

"yes, that's okay," he said lightly, looking around to see if the isle was empty. after a quick inspection, he decided it was empty enough not to bother people with their pda, so he leaned down and kissed her forehead three times.

"stop," she giggled, lightly slapping his chest. yn wanted nothing more than for people to see how adorable akaashi was with her, but she never wanted to make anyone uncomfortable with their displays of affection.

"stop," he said almost mockingly, repeating her words. yn raised her hand to slap him on the arm, but he grabbed her wrist and slid their fingers together. "what's next?"

"keiji?" they heard from the end of the isle.

akaashi's head snapped up in that direction when he heard a familiar voice.

"mom?" he asked, looking at the woman holding a suitcase in one hand and a few groceries and a bag in the other.

he held yn's hand a little tighter, trying not to drop it from the random surprise. god, he would never forgive himself if it looked like he dropped her hand because he didn't want his mom to see them in like that.

"what are you doing here?" he asked, watching yn from the corner of his eye, how she didn't know whether to hide or come forward. he gently pulled her to stand next to him. ye knew his mom well enough to know that she would adore yn, and yn was exactly the type that every parent adored. adding to that component of who was yn's father... she already won akaashi's mom's heart. "you told me you're going to be home next week."

"we finished the project faster than anyone expected," she said with a warm smile. "a few of my coworkers stayed to see some tourist attractions, but i wanted to come back home. especially since you left me hanging after telling me about this lovely lady."

akaashi blushed slightly when he mentioned their last phone call, in which he finally got the courage to tell his mom that he was head over heels for one girl. his courage was only enough for the confession and a few minutes to explain why yn was so special to him, but as soon as his mom began asking her own questions, he was done.

"this is yn," he said, feeling very proud that he was introducing this girl to his mom. he imagined it differently than during an unplanned encounter in a grocery store, but it had to work.

"it's so nice to meet you," yn said, bowing politely. based on what she learned about akaashi, she figured that he was not raised in a home that valued physical touch, and given that he was seeing his mom after a trip overseas and they hadn't even hugged, she chose the most formal way of greeting.

"all pleasure is mine," she said, smiling and repeating her greeting. "ah, you're just as pretty as keiji told me," she sighed, watching yn get shy at the comment. "but you look oddly familiar, as if i saw you somewhere," she asked, and akaashi cleared his throat awkwardly. he avoided discussing it during their phone call because he was not sure how to begin.

"ah, probably because of my dad, he's the guitarist in-" yn's words were cut short by a loud gasp from akaashi's mom, who didn't need to hear her dad's name to connect the dots.

"oh... my god, keiji why didn't you tell me?" She asked her son, hands on hips, as if scolding him.

"is it that important?" he asked, smirking sheepishly before dropping it when he noticed his mother squint at him. "my mom is a big fan," he told yn, who simply smiled.

"that's so nice," she cooed. "why didn't you tell me?" she asked akaashi, who nearly rolled his eyes at the question he'd already heard. "well, my dad isn't the most reliable person when it comes to the meetings, but i'm pretty sure we could arrange something without him rescheduling, he would love to finally meet 'kaashi and his parent as well!"

"well- i don't- i mean-"

it was the first time akaashi had ever seen his mother speechless.

'understable.'

he found himself at loss of words because of yn a lot too.
