yn found herself on a date. how, if she have been set on two people ('god, it makes me look like a bad person') if it wasn't akaashi or the person who sent her the poems?
well, she had no idea she was agreeing to a date.
the question she got was 'do you want to go for drinks? i need one after this exam,' from one of her classmates. she talked with him a lot, their friendship revolved mostly around complaining about professors and sharing notes. maruyama was a cool guy, she enjoyed his company, and they had been hanging out for a few drinks since starting university with their other classmates, so why not?
the first red flag she should've noticed was how pushy he was about sitting together at a table for two, but yn didn't like taking those tables in the bar when she was out with a friend one on one because she wanted them to stay empty for people who went on dates and wanted some privacy.
the irony.
she was able to convince maruyama to sit together by the bar. he wanted drinks, and it was the perfect place to sit with a great view of a stage where open mic was held. yn loved it and thought it was a great way for both of them to chill after the exam, listen to people share their songs, poems, and short stand-up moments, and have drinks from the barman.
the next red flag was that he was bugging her far too much. that sounded mean, but it was the only way she could describe it. she tried to enjoy her drink, talk to him, and watch the performances, but all he did was talk. it was so out of character for him, because he had always been quiet, but now he seemed to be physically unable to stop talking. he never stopped talking to ask her about something, when she tried to interrupt and say something, whether it was about the topic he had started or the person on stage, he just did not stop talking.
it turned into a very uncomfortable situation, even a bartender gave her a look that she tried not to return, but it was obvious that she was not having fun at all.
'damn, those exams really did a number on him, if they made him act like that.'
it turned out that the stress was caused by being on a date not by exams.
yn was sipping on her fourth drink, her favorite cosmo, pretending to listen to maruyama when someone put a hand between them, nearly knocking maruyama's drink from his hand. before he could speak, the guy who had successfully interrupted their conversation and flashed yn a smile.
"me and my girl saw you, and we really love your vibe, you're super hot-"
whatever he said after that, yn just blocked it out.
her gaze shifted to the stage, her lips parted with a gasp, and she returned to maruyama.
"we're on a date," he said to the man standing between them.
she felt deja vu at times, but it never led her to a conclusion when she had been in a similar situation previously. now it has.
"oh my god," she breathed out and started gathering her belongings.
"she don't look like she knows it's a date," the guy chuckled, believing she was getting ready to leave with him.
"what?" her attention shifted back to the two of them. "i wasn't aware it was a date, you're a really cool guy, maru, but i already like someone," she said, giving him a casual smile rather than an apologetic one, because she had nothing to apologize for.
it was her own lyrics, from her own song. it was a long time ago, and she knew only one person in the bar who could remember them and use them so beautifully.
she looked at the time, gasping at the cold air, as she walked out of the bar, it was nearly 10pm, late for an unannounced visit, but it couldn't wait any longer. she couldn't wait any longer.
