yn sighed as she opened the doors to her house. every time she returned to kobe, she felt as if she were returning home from a war, rather than a few weeks of university. her major wasn't even that hard.
she promised herself that she wouldn't go more than three months without returning home. the last thing she wanted was to move on with her life in tokyo and leave behind everyone she cared about, because she knew in her heart that no matter what, she'd return to live in kobe or osaka.
when she returned home, she always visited atsumu and miss ojiro. sometimes she and her dad were able to match the dates while he wasn't on tour or between trips, and she didn't have any exams and could visit.
this was one of those times, so she was very excited because it was the middle of january and the last time she saw her father was in september when he was in tokyo for a few days for interviews.
her dad has been a member of a band for the past thirty years. it was an impressive amount of time to be a rockstar, but he was making it work, and almost everyone his age gasped just hearing the name of the band because of how much of an impact it had on them in their teens and twenties.
it was difficult for the two of them to meet frequently after yn decided that she was mature enough to care for herself and stay at home alone rather than accompanying him on tours. she was happy for him, really, he was doing everything he ever wanted, and she knew it was her decision not to travel with him anymore, but there were times when she couldn't help but miss him and miss being with him all the time.
her house was spotless inside, with not a single particle of dust. her dad hired someone to clean it on a regular basis after she told him during a visit that she would have to clean the entire house before inviting miss ojiro for tea. she had nothing against cleaning the house, she enjoyed cleaning, but it was nice not to have to do so.
yn went to her room right away. it looked pretty plain because she had moved most of her favorite photos, trinkets, and decorations to her tokyo apartment, but it was still cozy. she still kept a large pinboard with photos from her childhood and inarizaki, as well as the majority of her mangas and plushies.
on the middle of the board was pinned a photo of her between aran and kita on their graduation day, next to it there was a candid photo of aran, atsumu, and osamu sitting on the edge of the sidewalk, eating something, from what she remembered it was onigiri, on the other side she had a photo with little her with her dad and his band, she had a lot of photos with them, because she was almost a daughter for all of them, because her dad was the first to have a child, there was a single photo of her with her parents together tucked somewhere close to edge of the board.
god, if her landlord wasn't an asshole who would probably kill her for drilling a hole in a wall, she'd take the entire board.
yn sat on her bed and unlocked her phone to check the time.
it was already two hours after her dad was supposed to arrive home. he did not leave her any message implying that their plans had changed. anyone would be nervous and stressed about that, but yn was accustomed to her dad changing plans.
she called him, and the phone was picked up after three rings.
"hi, dad," she said.
"sweetie, i was just thinking about you," he said, and the sounds around him suggested that he was near the airport.
"i wonder why," she chuckled.
"i know, i know, but we were talking with our manager, and one thing led to another, and before i knew it, i was on an airplane to south korea instead of japan," he sighed deeply, and yn could tell he was wiping his face. "i'm going to make it up for you."
"no need to," she said. she'd rather just meet up with him.
"i can get you tickets to seoul for the evening."
"you don't have to. i need to meet up with miss ojiro and atsumu, and maybe shinsuke as well, over the weekend and still make it to classes on monday, so visiting another country would not fit into my schedule," she said with a breathy laugh.
"we'll meet up soon, i promise, sweetie."
"i know." she didn't know, but she could only hope that it was true and that they'd see each other sooner rather than later.
"i have to go, but i'll text you after i get to the hotel, so maybe we'll talk some more, right?"
"yeah, sure, i'll call later."
the call lasted less than three minutes and left a sour taste in yn's mouth. she hoped that her dad would make it this time.
she had a lot to tell him about her internship in one of the more prestigious kindergartens (as funny as it sounded) in tokyo, which she'll begin next semester, and how she aced all of her exams last semester.
and about the poems.
her dad was a musician, and she knew he'd understand why they were so important to her.
but she didn't want to read them to him on the phone. she could, but it didn't feel right. she wanted to show them to him, explain how they reached to her and how she felt while reading them, and then maybe go through the text and interpret it together.
'anyway.'
yn scrolled up her contact list and selected Atsumu's phone number.
"what's up?" he asked, picking up after one signal.
"guess who's in town," yn replied, suppressing a yawn. the bed in her childhood bedroom will always be the most comfortable she has ever had.
"my favourite tokyo queen?"
"how many tokyo queens do you have that i'm the favourite one?" she chuckled and stood up from the bed. "do you wanna meet up?"
"why? you were meeting up with your dad today." damn atsumu and his excellent memory. she told him about a month ago, and he still remembered.
"yeah, but plans changed and i'm free."
"he rescheduled again?"
"yeah, but that's okay, it means i have more time for you," she said in the sweetest voice she could muster, making atsumu chuckle. yn realized she needed to divert his attention before he could return to talking about her dad. "you know that my friend from uni will be joining your team soon?"
