akaashi didn't thought much about the unknown number on his phone screen before picking up the call. he was recently applying for part-time jobs, and his first thought was that maybe someone would finally look over his pretty empty resume and decide to give him a chance.
"hello?" he replied, after clearing his throat to avoid stumbling over his words.
"hi, it's akaashi, right?"
for a moment suspected it could be also a telemarketer, but they didn't know his name, so it had to be a recruiter.
"yes," he politely replied, wondering if he should say anything else to sound even more polite.
but then he heard a chuckle from the other end of the call.
"oh, great, i got scared for a moment that kuroo gave me a wrong number."
after a few seconds, he realized he recognized that chuckle.
it wasn't some potential employer, it was yn.
after a few seconds, akaashi felt his heart drop to his stomach. if she had his phone number from kuroo, it meant they talked about him. was kuroo the one who initiated the conversation about him? did he tell her? maybe she figured it out for herself and decided that telling him what she was thinking about it over the phone was a better option.
"hello?" yn asked, wondering if akaashi was still on the other side, as she hadn't heard any amusement from him.
"i'm here," he said immediately, pushing his glasses up onto his nose bridge and clenching his hand in his hair. "sorry, i was just- why did kuroo have you my number?" he asked, taking a deep breath.
"i was talking with the editor of your newspaper today, because he also manages the bulletin boards, and i asked him if i could get the page with that, um, poem for me," she said, chuckling lightly at the end, still emotional about the fact that she had received a poem just for her. "i don't know if you saw it, but, anyway, he told me i have to wait untill the end of semester to have it, and i was talking about it with kuroo and he told me you might help me getting it."
"oh."
a sigh of relief escaped akaashi's lips, and a faint blush appeared on his cheeks. yn wanted to keep his poem for herself. she liked that one too.
"if that's a problem for you i can just wait."
"no, no," he replied immediately. "i can help you with that, do you... want me to bring it to you, or?" he trailed off, unsure what else to offer.
he was a bad actor, kuroo and kenma could see right through him. what if yn notices it as well, or worse, he simply blurts it out the moment he sees her?
"ah, you're so nice, 'kaashi, but i don't want you running around after me just to hand me a piece of paper. we can meet when you open the board, and i will take it right away."
"okay," akaashi said, smiling slightly to himself. she didn't want him to run after her, but that's exactly what he was doing and wanted to do. "when do you want to get it?"
"can we... get it today? i'm going home for the weekend, and i feel like if i stop looking at it, it will disappear," she admitted, her voice lowering slightly.
"are you looking at it right now?" he asked, genuinely surprised that yn was still on campus at that time. it was late evening, and the last class had already ended. the building would be closed in less than an hour.
"yeah," she replied, clearly embarrassed by how she was acting.
but akaashi couldn't be more pleased. she was looking at it, watching it, and most likely reading it over and over again, uncovering every layer of his admiration with each new interpretation of his poem.
"i- give me a few minutes, okay? i'll be there soon," he said before deciding whether he wanted to go out right now.
'i'm going crazy.'
akaashi was the last person to leave his apartment unexpectedly, after a decision he made in a single second.
"seriously?"
"yeah."
even though he was determined to go, it was still stressful to actually do it. but he had to realize that everything what involved yn in his life was spontanious and get used to it. maybe it wasn't too bad. maybe it was time to learn new things.
