And I was right. Two drinks later I can be considered drunk.
Tammy, Hailey and I are on one of the coffee tables, me in the middle, and dancing against each other. My back is grinding against Tammy while Hailey is just moving her arms around, and swaying her hips.
"Hey, Bella!" Someone shouts to me, I look down and am met with Nick Curtis's brown eyes.
"What?" I ask, stopping all of my movements.
"Want to dance with me?" He's asking me to dance? The Nick Curtis is asking me to dance? That doesn't seem right, maybe he's mixing me up with another Bella. Oh who am I kidding, of course he's talking to me.
"Um," I pause. "Sure."
I hop down from the coffee table, Nick giving me a hand. I mumble a 'thanks' and follow him to the dance floor.
I've got to admit, I'm a little nervous to be dancing with not only one of the most popular boys in school, but also one of the most hottest boys in school. You can't really blame me for feeling a little nervous.
"You look a little tense," he smiles. I for sure thought that he would smirk like Darren and Gavin do, but no, he smiles. And might I say, his smile his gorgeous.
"Just a little nervous, I guess," I shrug with a slight smile. Nick puts his hands on my hips and pulls me closer, our noses brushing. I put my arms around his neck, to steady my self.
"There's no need to be nervous, I won't hurt you," he tells me softly.
"It's not that I think you will hurt me," I mumble under my breath. Either he decides to ignore me or he really didn't hear me, because he didn't respond. Either way, I sway my hips, while he keeps his hands and eyes on me.
"So, are you and Brad a thing?" Nick asks. I look up at him, furrowing my eyes in confusion. Why would he think that? Oh, because I was dancing with him earlier.
"Oh, no we're not. We're just friends," I explain to him.
"It didn't look like you two we're 'just friends' you were pretty comfortable with him." My face heats up in embarrassment. Gavin said that it looked a little bit...whats the word? A little too sexy?
"Yeah, that was...not me. I mean it was me, obviously, but I was trying to forget about something and-"
"It's alright, I wasn't judging. I just thought it looked like you were a little more than friends. You can do better than him, anyway," he whispers the last part into my ear, sending a shiver up my spine. In a good way.
"Thanks," I blush for what seems like the millionth time tonight.
"I like when you blush," Nick whispers, a smile apparent on his face. Of course, him saying this only makes me blush even more.
"Thanks?" I cock my head to the side, he laughs, leaning into me, our lips centimeters apart.
"It was a compliment," he whispers against my lips. I practically melt, his hot breath fans across me and makes me want to just kiss him, I guess it's the alcohol.
My eyes flicker from his eyes to his lips and he leans in, I close my eyes waiting for the feeling of his lips on mine, but then after a second his body heat is completely taken away from me.
I stare in shock at the sight before me. Gavin tackled Nick to the ground, punching him left and right. I'm to stunned to move. In less than a minute Tammy and Hailey are by my side, and Darren is trying to get Gavin off of Nick.
Once he's successfully broken up the fight, he whispers something in Gavin's ear and his head snaps to mine, anger very present.
"What the hell, Bella?" I feel like he's been saying that a lot lately. "You tell me I need to work for your forgiveness and you almost kiss him."
I flinch at his harsh tone. "You don't know what I was going to do, Gavin."
"You know what, Bella? Forget it. Forget all of it. I'm done, I'm done with you and your games." He pushes past the people that have crowded around us, a scowl planted on his face.
"What was that about?" Tammy asks me. I shake my head, not wanting to talk about it.
"Can we just go home?" I ask hopeful. I really don't want to stay here any longer. I look down at Nick an he's looking at me, I turn away and start walking to the front door.
I sit at the curb by Brad's car, waiting for everyone to come out.
"Hey, are you alright?" Brad walks up to me, his face etched with concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just want to go home," I tell them. Brad nods and we all pile into the car.
There's mumbling along the way to my house, but I don't engage in any of it. My thoughts are clouded with thoughts of Gavin.
I don't see why he cares so much about who I dance or kiss. He doesn't even know me. Plus, he hurt me first, I can do what I want. Now, he walks away right when things get rough.
"Thanks for the ride, guys. See you all Monday," I wave goodbye to them and get out of the car. I walk slowly up to my house, my moms car in the driveway.
When I step through the threshold, my mom walks out of the kitchen in her work scrubs.
"Hey, sweetie, how was the party?" She asks, walking closer to me.
"It was alright," I shrug.
"That's...do you want to talk about it?" Well, she obviously knows something went on at the party.
"Yeah, just let me go change."
"Okay, I'll make some tea while you do." I nod my head and walk up the stairs to my room. I slide on my basketball shirt from my old school, and a pair of grey sweatpants. I brush my hair and put it up in a bun, then wash all the make up off my face.
When I get back down stairs my mom is sitting at the breakfast bar, a whole plate with chocolate chip cookies and mugs of tea.
"So what happened?" She asks when I get situated in my seat.
"Well, I guess the best part to start would be at the the beginning..."
I tell her about the first party with Gavin, I skipped the part where I thought he was going to rape me. I told her about my tutor being his brother. The bet between Gavin and I, which she already knew, but I went over it for good measures. I told her about the kiss with Richard and Gavin getting mad. The rumors and all the insults from other students. The first real kiss with Gavin and I, and lastly the fight.
"...Then he saw me dancing with a guy and got all mad. He may or may not have started a fight," I fidget with my fingers.
"Well, that's good, it means he likes you," she squeals, but I stay neutral.
"Not really. You see, he got mad because I was about to kiss him, and that's why he beat the guy up. He told me he was done with me." It feels good to get everything off my chest, but at the same time kind of embarrassing.
"Oh," mom pauses, thinking for a minute "He said he was done? You see, guys say that all the time. The thing is, if it was fueled by anger, he won't follow through with it. I guarantee he'll come crawling back to you, just give it time."
"Are you sure? Are you sure that's with all men and not just ones you've been with?" Not that I don't believe her, it's just Gavin doesn't seem like he would do that. Then again he got mad at me for kissing Richard then he kissed me the same day. Maybe she's right. Maybe I need to just get my head out of the gutter and take her advice.
"All men, sweetheart, anyways, I'm going to go to bed, I have work tomorrow morning." She pats my knee before gathering the mugs and cookies to clean up. When she's done she kisses my cheek and heads upstairs.
Just take her advice.
I will.
