San's POV
"I did offer you a hand with carrying these but," Wooyoung let out, struggling going up the stairs while holding heavy shopping bags, "isn't it unfair how I'm holding three bags and you're just holding one?" he asked San as they finally got to the last floor.
"Hm, let me think," San looked up, acting deep in thought before answering "Nope." The man grinned, showing off his dimples before turning around to walk towards his apartment, but he stopped at the sight in front of him.
"You're so cruel! What is this? You're the gym rat here not me! not to mention that I should be careful with what I hold since I don't want my hands to get blisters, I'm a model after all-" Wooyoung whined before realizing that his best friend's attention was nowhere at him, "You're not even listening to me?!" he scoffed, "What are you even staring at- oh..." Wooyoung stopped mid-sentence as he followed San's line of sight, confusion knitting his brows as he observed the unexpected encounter. It was Nabi and Jeno at her door conserving about something.
"Isn't that the evil ex we hate?" the younger muttered, his voice laced with bewilderment.
The older man hesitated, torn between curiosity and indifference. "Does she look like she hates him and I'm just not seeing it or?"
"San don't jump to conclusions, let's approach them first," Wooyoung suggested, already moving towards the duo, But San's grip on his arm halted him in his tracks.
"Why would we approach them?!"
"To find out what they're talking about?" The younger retorted, his tone tinged with exasperation.
"That's not our business let's go inside my apartment."
"Stop being a pussy will ya?"
"I'm not!" And the two kept on whisper-bickering before Wooyoung decided to listen to San. as they passed the talking duo they just nodded their heads in greeting, but as soon as San closed the door Wooyoung threw him an annoyed look.
"What?"
"Why are you acting like you don't care about what's happening outside?"
San sighed heavily, shedding his jacket as he collapsed onto the sofa. "And what if I care? Do I have any right to tell Nabi that I don't like it when she talks to Jeno because I'm jealous?" he confessed, his vulnerability exposed.
Wooyoung's eyebrows shot up in surprise at San's admission. "Not you admitting things...I didn't expect that," he remarked, his tone laced with disbelief.
San rolled his eyes in response before sinking further into the cushions, his exhaustion evident. "I feel so annoyed. Why is he even here?" he grumbled, hugging a pillow.
"Because he's a simp and can't move on," Wooyoung suggested his disdain for Jeno evident. "Wait a minute you're a simp as well I guess Nabi has a type!" the younger joked earning a glare from his friend.
"Nabi told me that she made sure to let him know that they were done for. Doesn't he have any self-respect?"
"What if they got back together?" Wooyoung proposed, a hint of alarm coloring his words.
"No way!" San exclaimed as he sat up, "It was just a few days ago that Nabi told me she wasn't ready for relationships, that's why I'm not there instead of Jeno confessing my feelings right now."
"Maybe she meant not ready for another relationship because she's still in love with her ex?"
"Do you miss getting bit up that bad?" San threatened the boy, throwing him a death glare.
"Haha no! I am just joking!" Wooyoung laughed it off to avoid his friend's wrath. "Should I go out and find out what they're talking about?" The youngest scoffed "Oh so now that you suggest it it's not a bad idea anymore?"
"Shut up, what if he's being annoying and clingy again?!"
"oh yes! So go and be another annoying clingy ass, she will like that I'm sure!" Wooyoung replied with an obvious sarcasm in his tone causing San to roll his eyes as he fell back on the couch again.
"Wanna know what I think?"
"Not really?"
"I'm going to say this either way." San raised his head, listening to what his friend was about to say, "Either man up and confess your feelings to her or just leave her alone and stop expecting her to approach you out of nowhere and make you hers or whatever weird fantasies you have!" And that's how Wooyoung got hit by a pillow San threw for the first time that evening.
"Ouch?"
"I don't have weird fantasies about Nabi!"
"Denial is the first step- Ouch!" And that was the second time.
San fell deep into his thoughts, the weight of Wooyoung's words pressing heavily on his mind. The idea of Jeno and Nabi getting back together nagged at him more than he would like to admit. He tried to shake off the unsettling feeling, but it clung to him, a stubborn reminder of his own insecurities and unspoken feelings.
Staring blankly at the ceiling, memories of his time with Nabi flooded his mind. He remembered their late-night conversations, the laughter they shared, and the way her eyes sparkled when she talked about something she loved. He remembered the comfort he felt in her presence, the way she made him feel understood and valued. These memories now felt tainted with the fear of losing her to Jeno.
"San, you okay?" Wooyoung's voice cut through his reverie, bringing him back to the present.
San blinked, realizing he had been silent for too long. He looked over at Wooyoung, who was watching him with a mix of concern and curiosity. "Yeah, I'm fine."
If only.
