San woke up earlier than usual that morning, despite having gone to bed late after last night's party. His eyes were open before dawn, staring blankly at the ceiling, his mind already restless. No matter how many times he tossed and turned, sleep refused to come. His thoughts kept drifting back to her-to Nabi.
He sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. San's mind replayed the scene over and over, the way he had finally told her how he felt. The moment seemed surreal like a dream he wasn't sure had actually happened. He had held onto those words for so long, afraid that once they slipped past his lips, everything between them would change. And now that it had, he couldn't stop wondering how things would be from now on.
'Did I do the right thing?'
The room was still dark, though the soft glow of afternoon sunlight filtered through the blinds, casting faint shadows on the floor. He glanced at his phone—past noon. He should've gotten up hours ago, but his limbs felt heavy, weighed down by the uncertainties swirling in his mind.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, San let out a long breath and pushed himself up into a sitting position. Laying here all day with his thoughts spiraling wasn't going to help anything.
"It's better to have 'breakfast' than stay stuck in my head," he thought wryly, though it was well past time for breakfast. His stomach rumbled, reminding him that he hadn't eaten since the night before.
San swung his legs over the edge of the bed, stretching his arms above his head as he tried to shake off the lingering exhaustion. His mind might still be stuck on Nabi and the chaos of last night, but at least some food and fresh air might clear his head.
He padded over to the kitchen, glancing at the clock again. 'Yeah, afternoon breakfast sounds about right.'
But before he could even begin to think about what to eat, a soft knock echoed through his apartment. He paused, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. Who could that be?
Curiosity got the better of him, and San wandered toward the door, opening it without much thought. He froze when he saw who was standing in front of him.
Nabi.
"Oh," was all he could manage, blinking at her in surprise. His brain scrambled to make sense of her presence. Of all people, Nabi showing up on his doorstep was the last thing he expected.
The girl offered him a nervous smile, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. "Morning— I mean, good afternoon!" she stammered, the awkwardness in her voice unmistakable. San bit his lip, fighting the urge to laugh at how flustered she seemed.
"Don't eat," Nabi blurted out suddenly, breaking the silence. Her tone was insistent as if she had to get the words out before she lost the courage to say them.
San blinked again, confusion flashing across his face. "Um, okay?" He couldn't help the slight tilt of his head, his brows knitting together in question.
Nabi hurried to explain, clearly picking up on his confusion. "I'm making lunch," she added, her voice softer now. "You should come over, and we should... talk." Her cheeks flushed as she spoke, her nerves apparent. It made San smile, warmth bubbling in his chest at how cute she looked when she felt fluttered.
"Okay," he replied, his lips curving into a small smile. Just like that, his plans for 'breakfast' were scratched, replaced by something far more important.
Without another word, San grabbed his keys and followed Nabi out of his apartment, a strange but comforting sense of peace settling over him. Whatever was going to happen between them, he knew one thing for sure—he'd rather be with her than stuck alone in his head.
