“I think we should move,” Bandit said as he swayed Austin in his arms, his right hand resting on his little back. “No, we need to leave Arkville.”
“You're right, but where are we gonna go?” Venom kicked his feet up on the coffee table as he raised a shot glass to his lips. It contained an amber liquid with ice cubes swimming around in it.
“We can't leave without Ryat and Zayde,” Korpse reminded them, looking up from his cellphone. “We promised that we'd never be separated. If we leave, they have to come with us.”
“Well, as you can see, we are separated, and we don't exactly have a choice,” Bandit stood up with Austin. “I love them as much as you guys do, but we're in a situation where heartbreaking choices are gonna have to be made, Godfrey.”
“He's right,” Venom sipped the bourbon and scrunched his face at the bitter taste. “Besides, this place is dangerous. It's filled with nothing but bad memories. The Cops are on our asses because someone's giving then tips about the sh*t we've done as teenagers anf there's a serial k!ller on the loose. This community is not fit to raise children, Godfrey. We have to go elsewhere.”
“So we should just leave and abandon Carnage and Neon? Is that what you're saying? I call b*llshit,” he stood and tucked his hands in the front pockets of his denim jeans. “We're staying.”
“Korpse, why are you making this so difficult? We gotta leave Arkville this place isn't safe!” there was evident hostility in Bandit's voice as he spoke. “We can come back for the other two, but we gotta save our a**es. The life of my kids are important.”
“And so are the lives of f**king Ryat and Zayde! Y'all are acting as if they chose to leave us, they were kidnapped! We can't abandon them. No. We're the Bloodlust Bastards, we never abandon a fellow bastard.” Korpse looked at both Venom and Bandit before hissing loudly and turning walking to the rails and placing his hands on them.
“What's going on out here?” Bella arrived with a concerned look. “Baby, is everything okay?”
“Take him,” Bandit handed Austin over to his Bella. “We're having an important conversation. I'll be with you shortly, okay my love?” he placed a chaste kiss to her lips and then kissed Austin's forehead. He watched her leave then turned to see Venom standing next to Korpse, still drinking.
Neither said anything, only gazing into the costly beauty of the surroundings absentmindedly. Each reminiscing on the past, how they grow up together, all the things they've been through, and the sacrifices they've made. Their histories are permanently intertwined, they share countless memories, and an unbreakable bond.
Unfortunately, the bond is slowly crumbling, they feel it, they know it.
“Look at us,” Godfrey said, his voice raspy and strained. “When did things get so complicated?”
The others remained silent. Battling their need to shed tears as well as trying to stop their hearts from shattering for the millionth time.
“I don't know. I wish... I wish we could turn back the time and be dumb teenagers again,” Venom placed his arm around Korpse's shoulder. “Back then, we had no worries. We just drank alcohol, did drugs, and got paid handsomely for k*lling people.”
“We used to have a bright future, but now it's full of darkness,” Bandit shook his head and licked his lips.
“You're lucky you see a future. At this point, I'll be surprised if we wake up tomorrow morning,” Venom ran a hand frustratedly through his hair. “Look, I hate that Ryat and Zayde are not here, but we gotta leave. The best thing is we know they're alive. Things could've been way wo–”
