The group had gotten to the hospital just for the nurse to tell them that only two visitors can go in at a time. So, Nancy and Jonathan had gone to see Mrs Driscoll, leaving all of the younger teenagers waiting in the waiting room for them. Asher wasn't really fond of sitting doing nothing, but he thought that while he had nothing to do, he should probably get something to eat.
"Hey, man, do you have a couple bucks I can borrow?" Asher asks Lucas "I'll pay you back, I just got nothing on me right now."
"Here" Lucas says, pulling two dollars out of his pocket.
"Thanks man, you're the best" Asher says with a smile, walking over to the vending machine with Lucas following him.
"So, you and Max, huh?" Lucas asks, leaning against the edge of the vending machine. Before Asher got out of juvie, Max and Asher barley talked, but over the past couple of days, he hasn't seem them leave each others side and when he walked in on them in Mike's basement bathroom made him feel like something was going on between them.
"What do you mean, me and Max?" Asher asks as he looks at the vending machine.
"What's going on with you two?" Lucas asks.
"Nothing, we're just friends" Asher says, still not looking at Lucas, finding the vending machine much more interesting.
"You don't need to lie to me, you know? I'm not going to be pissed about it or anything" Lucas says, making Asher look at him. If Lucas was being honest, he knew that him and Max wouldn't last forever, the amount of times they broke up showed it. He knew that one day, Max would break up with him and he'd be okay with it, and if he was being honest, when she broke up with him a few days ago, he wasn't sad about it. Lucas knew that this break up with Max was permanent and he was okay with that.
"I'm not lying" Asher says "Me and Max are just friends."
"Doesn't look like it" Lucas says, making Asher look confused "Dude, I saw the way she ran over to you after Billy beat your ass, and if I'm being honest, I've never seen her so worried about anything until that moment."
"I still don't get it" Asher says to Lucas, making the boy sigh.
"All I'm saying is that Max looks at you the way she used to look at me" Lucas says with a smile "She likes you, dude."
"You being serious right now?" Asher asks, not believing Lucas.
"Yeah, and I can tell you like her too" Lucas says, making Asher shake his head.
"Look, man, I'm not going to try anything with her if that's what your--" Asher goes to say but Lucas cuts him off.
"I'm okay with it. If I'm being honest right now, I think you'll treat her better than I ever did" Lucas says as Asher looks over at Max who's sat by herself, making Lucas turn around to see what Asher was looking at before turning back to face the Hart boy "Go over to her and make your move."
