After what happened at the hospital, Eleven had spent the rest of the night trying to look for Billy, Heather, Tom or anyone that they know has something to do with what's going on. Everyone else on the other hand had been sat in Hopper and Eleven's cabin waiting for Eleven to say that she has found someone. Asher and Max had been avoiding each other like the plague while they were waiting. After their last conversation, Max and Asher hadn't talked, which had just made things feel more awkward between the two. On one hand, Max felt like Asher hated him because she never said anything back to him, and then on the other hand, Asher felt like Max didn't feel the same because she didn't say anything back. Long story short, the two felt very awkward with each other because of the miscommunication between the two of them.
"Yes from the Hawkins Post" Nancy says to the person she is speaking to on the phone while Will, Asher and Jonathan look through the phone book to see if there is anyone else they could call. If he was being honest, Asher had completely forgot who they were trying to call and why, but he decided to still try and be helpful and help the Byers brothers look "I-- I called a couple of days ago about the-- yes, yes, um... I was just following up to see if anything else had gone missing, or if-- okay, um, I'm sorry to bother you" Nancy says before getting hung up on.
"Still nothing?" Asher asks, making Nancy shake her head.
"Who's next?" Nancy asks as Jonathan crosses off another phone number.
"There is no next" Jonathan answers "Unless you want to start calling random people's homes."
"I could totally do that" Asher says, making the three give him weird looks "What? I'm good with people."
"Are you?" Will asks, making Asher scoff "I know more people that hate you than like you. No offence."
"Um, actually I take great offence to that" Asher sarcastically says to Will "People who have never spoken a word to me hates me. If they actually decided to talk to me they'd like me because I'm just that great."
"Okay, can you guys settle an argument for us?" Max asks the three as her, Lucas and Mike walk over to the group "Who do you think should decide El's limits? Mike or Eleven?"
"The way that you frame that is such bullshit" Mike argues with Max.
"It's not bullshit, Mike. This is your whole problem" Max argues back "And it's also precisely the reason why she dumped your ass."
"El dumped you?" Nancy asks Mike.
"Yeah, because she and Ash are conspiring against me" Mike says to Nancy "They're corrupting her."
"No, enlightening her" Max corrects.
"So us showing El that there is more to life than you is corrupting her?" Asher asks Mike with a scoff "El has her own mind, okay? If she wants to dump you that's her decision, don't blame it on us."
"Yeah, Ash is right" Max agrees "The fact is, she's not yours. She's her own person, fully capable of making her own decisions."
"She's risking her life for no reason" Mike argues.
"For no reason? Mike, the flayed are out doing God knows what" Nancy intervenes.
"Killing, flaying..." Lucas adds on.
"Turning into monsters" Will also adds onto the list.
"And El knows her limits more than any of us" Asher says "She's the one who understands her powers the most, so she knows when to stop and when not to. If she's pushed her limits too much and stops we're not going to make her keep going."
"Exactly, thank you" Max says to Asher "El has saved the world twice, and Mike still doesn't trust her."
"You want to talk about trust, really?" Mike asks Max "After you and Ash made Eleven spy on us?"
"Wait, what?" Lucas asks.
"Oh, they didn't tell you this?" Mike asks Lucas before looking back at Max "Your ex girlfriend and new best friend used El's powers to spy on us."
"She did that out of her own free will" Asher defends him and Max "We didn't make her do anything."
"Of course you'd defend her" Mike says to Asher "You're wrapped around Max's finger so much that it's honestly insane."
"I'm not wrapped around her finger, I'm just telling you the truth which is that Max and I don't make Eleven do anything" Asher says to Mike "She's thirteen, she can make decisions like that by herself. She doesn't need to run it by you or anyone else."
"And why are we even talking about this, seriously?" Max asks.
"Yeah, who cares?" Will asks, standing up from Asher and Max.
"I care" Lucas defends Mike.
"I guess girls don't lie, they spy" Mike says, looking back at Max.
"We were just joking around" Max says with a shrug.
"Wouldn't it of been so funny if I was taking a massive shit or something?" Mike asks Max.
"You weren't" Max and Asher both say at the same time.
"But what if I was?" Mike asks, looking at Max.
"Then gross!" Max says with a disgusted look on her face.
"Seriously, Mike?" Asher hears Nancy say from behind him.
"I'm just trying to demonstrate how careless Max and Ash are with Eleven's powers" Mike says "In fact, how careless all of you are. You're treating her like she's some kind of machine when she's not a machine, and I don't want her to die looking for the flayed when they've obviously vanished off the face of the earth. So can we please just come up with a new plan because I love her and I can't lose her again" Mike finishes off his rant, leaving everyone in silence.
"What, so we're dead in the water 'cause you're pussy-whipped?" Asher asks Mike, making him roll his eyes.
"Is that literally all you got from that?" Lucas asks Asher with a laugh.
"Yeah, pretty much" Asher says with a shrug, not seeing what else he could of gotten out of Mike's speech, as Eleven walks out of her room.
"What's going on?" Eleven asks, making everyone look at her and Mike.
"Nothing. Nothing" Mike says right before Asher was going to say something to Eleven.
"Just a family discussion" Lucas says with a smile.
