After the events that had happened the night before at the Creel house, the group had decided to stock Eddie up on food, with Asher convincing them to get a six-pack for Eddie, knowing he'd want one. With everything going on with Max, Asher hadn't had time to go and see Eddie, even when he wanted to go and see how his best friend is doing; so he was happy that the group had finally decided to go and check up on him.
"Not to be a wimp, but can I maybe sit in the car for this visit?" Robin asks Nancy "'Cause this is gonna totally and royally suck."
"It'll be fine" Nancy says, brushing Robin off.
"I just can't stand to see those doe eyes of Eddie's break again" Robin points out, making Asher sigh "I really really can't."
"At least he can drink himself into feeling better" Steve points out, holding the six-pack up so Robin can see.
"That's what my mom does" Max bluntly says.
"Hey, my dad does the same thing" Asher tells her with a smile "Welcome to the alcoholic parents club!"
"Why don't we just give it a trail run?" Robin asks "Hey, Eddie. Uh, good news first this time. We got you some Dustin and Ash approved junk food and that six-pack you requested. Oh yeah, and we found Vecna. Only bad news is that he's trapped in that other, much darker, much scarier dimension that we told you about, and the gate's closed so we have no way of getting to him. Like, he's entirely shut off to us so basically you're screwed. And, no, no, I know you were already screwed, but now you're doubly, triply screwed."
"Wow, Robin, you really know how to ruin a man's day" Asher sarcastically says to the girl.
"Maybe we don't put it like that" Lucas suggests.
"We're one step closer to finding Vecna" Nancy says "That's what we say. That's what's important."
"See, Robin? A positive spin can make all of the difference" Steve says as Nancy pulls up to Reefer Rick's house, finding a bunch of police cars, as well as other cars, parked outside.
"What the fuck?" Asher asks "You don't think they--"
"They couldn't have" Dustin cuts off Asher, trying to reassure him as they all get out of the car before hiding from the crowd, but close enough so they can hear what is going on.
"As many of you may know by now, the Roane County line received a call a little after midnight reporting a homicide here on the lake" The new chief of police, Powell, tells the crowd "Officer Callahan here and myself arrived first on the scene. We made our way to the shore of Lovers Lake, about ten yards from the house you see behind me. It was there that we found the victim, an eighteen year old senior from Hawkins High, Patrick McKinney. His limbs and his body, it was disfigured. There was an eye witness on the scene--"
"Oh shit, this isn't good" Asher mumbles out.
"We have also identified a person of interest" Powell carries on "Eddie Munson. We encourage anyone with information to please come forward."
"Oh man" Steve says with a sigh "This is not good. Really not good."
"Yeah, we know, Steve" Asher sarcastically says "Thank you very much for the comment."
"You've all got a lot of questions, and I'm going to answer as many as I can" Powell says to the crowd "Two o'clock at Town Hall, where anyone from the Hawkins community is welcome. But right now, I've got work to do, and I appreciate your understanding."
"Dustin, can you hear me? Wheeler? Ash?" Asher hears Eddie say on Dustin's radio, making Asher get it out of Dustin's bag and walk away from the group, making them all follow him.
"Eddie, it's me, man. Are you good?" Asher asks Eddie.
"Nah, man. Pretty... pretty goddamn far from okay" Eddie answers.
"Where is he?" Robin asks Asher.
"Where are you?" Asher repeats to Eddie.
"Skull Rock, do you know it?" Eddie asks Asher "Actually, I know that you know it."
"Yeah, I know it" Asher says to Eddie as everyone starts walking to make their way to Skull Rock "We're coming. Just stay there and try not to be seen by anyone, okay?"
"How do you know where Skull Rock is?" Max asks Asher with an unimpressed look.
"It was before I liked you, okay?" Asher says to Max, trying not to get into trouble with the girl "Don't give me that look."
"You never took me to Skull Rock" Max points out to Asher, making him roll his eyes.
"Because you weren't just some hookup" Asher bluntly says "Now, can we leave this conversation for later so we can go and find Eddie?"
"Fine, but we're having this conversation later" Max says to Asher.
"Yay, can't wait" Asher sarcastically says as the two follow the rest of the group.
