When Lucas first joined the basketball team, the whole friend group had gone to watch his games. Even though they didn't care about popularity or knew anything about basketball, they went because they wanted to support Lucas. However, Asher found himself at the Championship game by himself, with Max, Mike and Dustin to be nowhere in sight. At the games, the four normally sit together, with Max explaining to the three boys what is going on, but today Asher was stood on his own. Well, until he saw Steve walk into the gym with a senior girl.

"Steve, Steve, Steve" Asher says as he walks over to him "I'm lonely."

"How am I supposed to fix your relationship problems?" Steve asks, thinking that Asher meant something completely different.

"No, I mean I'm sat by myself" Asher mentions to Steve "And if I wanted relationship advice, I wouldn't come to you, no offence."

"Why wouldn't you come to me about relationship advice?" Steve asks Asher, feeling pretty offended.

"I was there when you gave Dustin relationship advice, and as well, I'd rather just go to Nancy" Asher says with a shrug.

"Well, for that, you can sit by yourself" Steve mentions before walking to his seat, leaving Asher by himself once again.

Asher felt awkward being at the game by himself, especially when all of the basketball team apart from Lucas hates him. But, as much as Asher wanted to be anywhere else, he wanted to support Lucas, even if that meant watching Lucas sit on a bench for the whole game. Over the summer, Lucas and Asher had gotten closer as friends, so of course Asher was going to support Lucas in something that he loved. Asher couldn't say the same for the rest of Lucas' friends though.

"Everyone now please raise for our national anthem" Principal Higgins says, making everyone stand up "Singing for us tonight, we have a very special guest. All the way from Nashville, our very own Tammy Thompson!" He says as people cheer as Tammy walks out.

"O say can you see" Tammy starts to sing "By the dawn's early light--"

"God, she sounds like a Muppet" Asher whispers to himself, catching the attention of someone behind him.

"You know what, I can totally see that" Carrie whispers to Asher. Carrie and Asher know each other from being lab partners in Chemistry. They speak to each other a lot in that lesson, with having no other friends they could talk to, but apart from that, the two never speak. Asher likes Carrie; she's nice but if he does no work, she does tell him off for it, which he respects. She also helps him study a lot, which is the reason why the only subject he is passing is Chemistry.

"I know right. If she can go to Nashville with that voice, so could I" Asher whispers back to the girl.

"Maybe she went to become one of the Muppets" Carrie jokingly whispers back "Are you here on your own? You're usually here with your freshmen friends."

"Yeah, they couldn't come" Asher whispers back as Carrie steps down from her bleacher to stand next to Asher "What are you doing?"

"Can't have you standing by yourself. It's depressing if you're on your own" Carrie whispers back, making Asher look confused "I'm saying that you could use a friend."

"Thanks" Asher whispers back as he sees Lucas turn around, making Asher wave at him with his spare hand.

"Why didn't his other friends show up?" Carrie asks Asher "You know, the three you're usually here with?"

"Um, they had other plans" Asher says with a shrug "I didn't have anything better to do so I still came."

"Oh please, you would of dropped anything to come and support him" Carrie says with a scoff, knowing that Asher is a loyal person.

"How do you know that?" Asher asks Carrie.

"He's your friend" Carrie says to Asher "And I know you'd do anything for your friends."

TIME SKIP BY ASHER SUPPORTING LUCAS

Asher had sat with Carrie through out the whole game and she had explained all of the rules of basketball to him, just so he wouldn't be confused. She had also started cheering with Asher when Lucas had came onto the court and even when Lucas had scored the winning points. Now, Asher didn't really know much about basketball, but he knew that after the way Lucas had played, the coach would be an idiot not to start Lucas next year.

"Hey, thanks for sitting with me" Asher mentions to Carrie as the two walk out of the gym "I know you came here with your friends."

"I couldn't just leave you by yourself, could I?" Carrie asks Asher with a smile "Um, can I ask you a question? It's a weird one."

"I'm all for weird questions" Asher says with a laugh.

"Are you and that red haired freshmen still a thing?" Carrie asks Asher "I don't see you two around each other a lot anymore."

"Her name is Max and no, we're not. She broke up with me in January" Asher awkwardly answers.

"Good to know" Carrie mutters out with a smile.

"Um, I'm going to go and see Lucas" Asher quickly says to Carrie before speed walking over to Lucas "There's the star player!" Asher happily shouts as he hugs Lucas "Dude, you were amazing!"

"Thanks" Lucas says with a smile.

"You better remember me when you're playing in the NFL or some shit like that" Asher says to Lucas as Patrick walks over to them.

"Lucas. Come on, man" Patrick says before dragging Lucas away, leaving Asher on his own as Steve walks over to him.

"You need a lift home?" Steve asks Asher, not being able to see Asher's dirt bike anywhere in sight.

"Drop me off at Dustin's, yeah?" Asher asks before the two walk over to Steve's car so they can both go home.
