𝐼𝑇 𝑆𝐸𝐸𝑀𝐸𝐷 𝑇𝐻𝐴𝑇 𝐾𝐴𝐼'𝑆 plan to take over their small town wasn't working all that well since his running for city council wasn't working. Not many people knew what the city council was, they didn't know who Kai was. Pearl was far more known that him because of her charity, which is not what this movement needed.
Kai was having a meeting with his core followers, RJ, Beverly, Harrison, Winter, Gary, Samuels, and now Ivy, but Meadow was nowhere to be found. Winter had some information she had prepared for the meeting, which Kai wanted. Everyone was sitting, ready to listen to Pearl, who was in front of everyone, all except Pearl, who was leaning against the door frame.
Winter began, "There's no official polling for the city council race, so Kai asked me to do my own unscientific poll around town. Needless to say, voter awareness is pretty low. most people don't know about the special election or who is running or what the city council even does."
"Why are we even trying to win some stupid election? Who cares if Kai's on city council?" RJ, Beverly's camera man, wondered. He never should have questioned Kai since the man in question stood from his chair and backhanded RJ. He held his face in pain as Kai informed, "Because the perception of credibility leads to the perception of power. Because people don't follow experts anymore, they follow titles. And when we get our shit together and cause enough panic and fear, the sheep are gonna turn to their leaders to save them. And because city council is the only goddamn election available...that leader is gonna have to be a goddamn city councilman."
"People aren't scared enough. You'd think a serial killer leaving smiley faces everywhere would make people crap their drawers, but it's pretty much business as usual." Harrison pointed out, seeing as how Pearl had planned incredible murders. The clowns were not her idea, but clowns are not scary unless they're put in that setting, which is exactly what she did.
"We need to make the murders scarier." Kai suggested, which earned a scoff from Pearl. "How the fuck am I supposed to make them scarier?"
"I don't know. Throw in some satanic stuff like that movie Paradise Lost we saw on HBO once." Kai offered, but Pearl knew that was all just for show. She's a professional, she can make these murders scary. Although, she has already gone above and beyond, which she pointed out to her husband, "Kai, I've already locked a couple in a coffin to suffocate, cut off a man's head and spread the two part of his body, cut and strangled people by their necks, and put fake blood and creepy symbols on people's doors. You want it to be more satanic? Well, why don't I just cut someone up and organise their limbs into the Zodiac Killer's symbol?"
Pearl was being very sarcastic since she wasn't amused by the fact that her work didn't seem to be enough when she takes great pride in her craft, her art form. It seemed that her sarcasm, however, was exactly what Kai wanted. "...Pearl, that's genius. Did you just come up with that?"
"Yeah, and while I'm at it, I'll just take an axe to someone's head while we all chant 'Ave Satanas' 'cause people hate admitting they're scared of Latin." Pearl was continuing to be snarky and sarcastic, but she kept accidentally giving Kai amazing ideas he wished could be real. "Yes. Pearl, yes. Do that."
Pearl rolled her eyes, seeing as how her jokes were being taken seriously since what she was suggesting, she didn't really want to do. They were gory, bloody, disorganized, everything that Pearl is not. She prefers swift deaths, ones with less pain. Of course, blood and gore never bothered her, however, it takes more time.
Beverly was in the same boat. She could see that these horrific murders weren't going to do too much. "It doesn't matter if the devil himself rises up from hell and starts killing people around here as long as no one sees him do it. The world isn't 'tell me,' it's 'show me.' People aren't scared because they haven't seen the goddamn clowns. We are pulling off the cinematic Clockwork Orange shit, and it's like we're putting on a show for ourselves."
"You're the one who couldn't get your boss to air the Serena tape." Kai stepped towards Beverly, towering over her, yet getting right in her face so that she could get the point. Even Pearl spoke up from her spot by the door, "Yeah, I worked hard on that. Do you know how difficult it is to stab someone thirty times by yourself?"
"It was a work of art."
During a recorded airing of a news broadcast by Serena, a coworker of Beverly's that she absolutely despised, Pearl had shown up in her crow-clown outfit and stabbed she and her camera man thirty times, but made sure the camera was rolling. Pearl had done so all by herself, a true monument to fear, but of course, Beverly's boss wouldn't let something so terrifying and disrespectful be aired on their channel.
"My boss will never air it. And he's beginning to catch on that my impartiality as a reporter may be compromised." Beverly defended herself.
Kai sighed and stood back up, turning to walk back and stand next to his wife. "Well...then I guess we're just gonna have to kill Bob. Dollface, love the axe to the head idea."
"I was being sarcastic when I said that." Pearl pointed out as she stood up straighter and crossed her arms in front of her chest. Kai really didn't care if she wasn't being genuine, he was fond of her mind and the way she thought. "Yes, I know, but we're doing it anyway."
"I miss the days when I was the one telling you what to do."
"Don't worry. You're just as bossy as the day we met." Kai kissed her temple before he moved back out further into the room, now ready to work out what this plan was going to look like and how they could get this murder of Beverly's boss on the air.
Pearl had been working hard to give Kai all that he desires, to understand his mind and what it was he wanted out of this movement. He was lucky enough to have Pearl, who was an expert in most of what he was doing...almost all of what he was doing. Pearl knew how to get away with murder, she knew how to make the the media terrified of something they couldn't understand...and she knew how to run a cult.
