❛ what is real? what is fake? ❜

𝑀𝐸𝐴𝐷𝑂𝑊 𝐻𝐴𝐷 𝐴𝐿𝑊𝐴𝑌𝑆 𝑊𝐴𝑁𝑇𝐸𝐷 a husband, nice house, white picket fence, kids, the whole basic American lifestyle, but that never happened. She had a gay husband in a house that the woman she loves, but is married to another, bought for them to spy on a random enemy. Meadow never thought she would fall in love with a woman, especially one like Pearl -- a murderous, independent, seductress Meadow knew she couldn't have.

Part of Meadow hated Kai. She wanted to be with Pearl, to finally be happy, have the life she's always wanted with a woman she never thought she'd love. Then again, Meadow looked up to Kai, respected Kai...was a little scared of Kai.

Meadow did need to confide in someone and knew she could trust Kai. So, she asked for a pinky-up.

Downstairs and at the table, Kai and Meadow were sitting across from each other. He had his elbow on the table and his pinky out. "Pinky up."

Meadow did as she was told and interlocked their pinkies. Kai taught every one of his followers about this family trick. Meadow knew that neither she or Kai could lie while their pinkies were intertwined. "Tell me what you're afraid of."

"Okay. Can I be honest?" Kai nodded his head, it being an incredibly obvious question, as Meadow let out a breath. "I'm afraid that Sonja on the Real Housewives of New York has a drinking problem."

Kai stood up swiftly and slapped Meadow with such force that she fell out of her chair. Kai towered over the woman as he yelled, "Are you going to waste my time?! Do you understand how valuable my time is?! How much it means that I'm here doing this for you?! This is a revolution!"

Kai ran his hand through his hair before he sat back down. He let out a frustrated breath since he was supposed to be spending time with Pearl instead of helping Meadow with what he believed to be her useless problems, but he had to keep up appearances. Kai put his hand back up and waited for her to return.

Meadow was able to get up, rubbing her face since it burned from the slap. Meadow did sit back down. She was brainwashed that a simple slap could never turn her away from the movement. "I'm sorry. I hide behind my humour."

"Stop anaesthetising yourself. Know your pain." Meadow interlocked their pinkies again as Kai sighed and continued, "Now, tell me, are you afraid that you're forty and childless? Are you afraid that you will die unloved? Are you afraid that you will never be penetrated by a man again?"

"Yes. All of it. I'm afraid that the man I love is turning against me." Meadow admitted, knowing she didn't love Harrison, she loved Pearl, but she did wish that there was a world where Harrison could just love her and she could have her perfect life. She knew that there was no perfect life with Pearl.

Kai fully agreed with her. "He is. I would. You're so fucking irritating."

"He has a friend now. They whisper about me and share looks." Meadow admitted, but  Kai was so tired of her blaming herself. Kai fully believed that it was Meadow's fault she was so annoying and that everyone was turning against her -- he truly respected Pearl for putting up with her and continuing to seduce her.

"You're afraid of nothing. You're afraid you're shit. Stop saying sorry, for anything. That makes you nothing. Everything is somebody else's fault from now on, do you understand?" Meadow nodded her head. "You want to be somebody? You want to matter? Then you make the world wrong."

Meadow looked down at their hands for a moment. There was something she wanted to ask Kai, something weighing on her mind, but she was afraid Kai wouldn't answer. Although, she knew she'd never get the answer if she didn't ask, "Can I ask you something personal?"

"If you must." Kai breathed out, Meadow being the last person he wanted to talk to about his personal life. Kai hated Meadow, hated that she was part of the movement, but she was easily manipulated and if there was no Meadow, there was no Harrison...for the time being.

"How do you do it? You and Pearl, I mean. You two just seem so happy all the time. When we're hurting those people or when we're just meeting here, every moment you two are together just looks...perfect."

"So, you're question is...?" Kai didn't see what he was supposed to answer, so Meadow elaborated, "How do you meet someone like that? And how do you make it work?"

"It's not hard. We started hooking up, hooking up turned into making breakfast, making breakfast turned into dinners, dinners turned into dating, dating turned into marriage." Kai didn't find it difficult to fall in love with Pearl. What the poets say is true, when it's true love, it's easy. Of course, Pearl struggled to love him, struggled to see past her needs to make him love her, but she fell eventually. She and Kai are too similar for her to have not.

"Well, I know that's the general way it goes, but I mean, how did you get it to actually happen? I can't meet anyone, I can't find anyone, and you two are so good for each other."

"We're good for each other because we believe the same thing. We know that there are people in the world that will tell us what to think, manipulate us into being contributing members of society when our real contribution is wanting to burn the whole fucking thing down. You just need to find someone who thinks like you. With this movement, you know you can do that because you have joined an elite unique. Pearl can help you, I can help you. But you need to stop subjecting yourself to superficiality and open your fucking eyes."
