Sitting at the kitchen table talking to Sam Wilson, Indigo finally sees Steve and Nat walk in.
As soon as she got the text, Indigo hopped into her car and drove to Sam's house. Indigo remembered Steve's enthusiastic description of him after a meeting at the VA. But as soon as she walked in, Indigo realized Steve had left out a crucial detail—Sam was the male version of her, right down to the questionable taste in decor hanging in his kitchen.
Sitting across from Sam, it was like staring into a mirror, except this mirror had a goatee and a penchant for bad jokes. They traded stories, and it was like watching a comedy duo perform, except they were the only audience.
After an hour of sitting and talking to him, he caught Indigo up on everything that happened to Nat and Steve while they were in Jersey. She knew she should have gone with them but of course she was caught up with worrying about herself.
Just has Indigo started beating up on herself, she hears Nat walk in and say "Indie, even if you were there, it's not like you could have stopped the missile from coming at us."
Indigo looks up at Nat with tears in her eyes, wondering what would have happened if they didn't make it out of there alive. "I am so sorry Nat, I just feel like I could have done something to help you and Steve." Indigo says with regret.
Not seeing Steve come in behind her, Indigo hears him say "Indigo Willow Evergreen, you can not blame yourself for something you had no control over. Natasha and I are alive and fine, so stop blaming yourself. We have work to do, so let's get started."
Indigo looks up at him, giving him a nod of appreciation as he sits next to her, then she turns her head to look over at Sam, "Damn, he really just used your full name to shut you up" he says with a chuckle.
Indigo grabs the nearest item next to her, which just so happened to be a small model bird, she chunks it at his head. Sam's eyes widen in surprise as the bird sails through the air, its trajectory guided by my frustration and aim. With a dull thud, it connects with his forehead, eliciting a startled yelp from him as he clutches at the spot where it struck.
"That's enough now, children." Nat's voice cuts through the air, her tone firm but laced with amusement. Indigo turns to see Nat standing in the doorway, a playful smirk playing on her lips as she looks between Sam and Indigo. With a sheepish grin, Indigo offers a shrug, while Sam holds up his hands in mock surrender.
"Let's get down to business," Indigo says with a quick change of subject, "who in SHIELD could launch a domestic missile strike?"
"Pierce." Steve says with a sigh.
Nat walks over to the table to sit down and says, "Who happens to be sitting on top of the most secure building in the world."
Indigo puts her head down onto the table, she can already feel a migraine coming on. She knew something was off with that man the second she met him. Indigo should have slit his throat the second she saw him. It would have made their lives so much easier.
