Indigo's POV ~~
As Indigo sat around the table with Fury, Steve, Nat, Hill, and Sam, trying to focus on the urgent task at hand, she couldn't shake the persistent intrusion of unwanted memories that haunted her thoughts like specters in the night. For the past forty minutes, Indigo had kept her head laid on the table, a feeble attempt to shield herself from the flood of emotions threatening to overwhelm her.
Despite the gravity of their mission to stop the Helicarriers, her mind stubbornly fixated on him, his image burned into the depths of her consciousness like a brand seared into flesh. Every time Indigo closed her eyes, she was transported back to the street looking into his eyes. She feels Steve walk over to her, putting his hand on my hair, stroking it. He always knows how to make me feel better, Indigo think to herself.
"And how many paid the price before you did?" Steve's words cut through the haze of Indigo's thoughts like a knife, his voice tinged with a solemnity that mirrored the weight of the burdens they all carried. As his question hung in the air, a heavy silence descended upon the room, each of them grappling with the painful truth it laid bare.
Indigo picks her head up, looking at Fury waiting for a response.
"Look, I didn't know about Barnes." he says with grief. Fury's admission hung in the air like a heavy fog, his words weighted with the burden of grief and remorse.
Indigo shakes her head, knowing that if Nick had, he would have told Steve.
"Even if you have, would you have told me? Or would you have compartmentalized that too? SHIELD, HYDRA, it all goes." Steve's words pierced through the tension in the room like a dagger, his voice resonating with a sense of disillusionment that mirrored the turmoil in Indigo's heart. As he spoke, Indigo felt a knot tighten in the pit of her stomach, a sickening realization dawning upon her like a thunderbolt.
The very foundation upon which Indigo had built her sense of belonging, her sense of purpose, was now crumbling beneath her, threatened by the insidious tendrils of betrayal and deception. SHIELD, once a bastion of hope and security, now stood on the brink of collapse, its once-sterling reputation tarnished by the revelation of HYDRA's infiltration.
"He's right" Indigo whispers, wishing Steve wasn't right. Fury looks around the room, trying to feel out what everyone else wants.
His eyes land on Sam, "Don't look at me. I do what he does, just slower." Sam says with a shrug.
Indigo lets out a chuckle knowing that what Sam said was totally true. She looks over at Fury, waiting to hear his response to what Steve said.
With a long sigh, Fury looks up at Steve and says, "Well... looks like you're giving the orders now, Captain."
~~~~~~
Standing on the bridge with Steve, the weight of their mission pressing down upon them like a tangible force, Indigo couldn't help but feel a surge of anticipation mingled with apprehension coursing through her veins. The wind whipped at her hair, carrying with it the scent of salt and sea as they gazed out at the sprawling expanse of water stretching out before them.
In the depths of her mind, Indigo went over the details of their plan, each step carefully laid out like a well-worn path through the wilderness of uncertainty. It had taken some convincing, but Steve had finally agreed to let Indigo join him, recognizing the value of having an ally by his side.
As they prepared to embark on their mission to infiltrate the Helicarrier, Indigo's thoughts were consumed by the image of Bucky, his face etched with pain and confusion as he grappled with the memories of his past. She knew that wherever Steve went, Bucky would be close behind, a shadow lurking in the periphery of our lives, a constant reminder of the tangled web of fate that bound them together.
Indigo needed to see him again, if only to try and make sense of the feelings that stirred within her whenever she thought of him. There was a connection between them, a thread that stretched across time and space, binding their souls together in a silent dance of longing and desire.
"He's gonna be there, you know?" Sam spoke, his voice carried a weight of certainty, a somber tone that hinted at the gravity of the situation. Indigo could sense the tension in the air, thick with the unspoken understanding of what lay ahead.
Steve's response was measured, "I know." his words tinged with a hint of resignation. Indigo could see the conflict etched into the lines of his face, the weight of his responsibilities pressing down upon him like a heavy burden.
But as Sam continued, his words struck a chord within her, resonating with a truth that Indigo couldn't ignore. "Look, whoever he used to be, the guy he is now, I don't think he's the kind you save. He's the kind you stop." There was no way they could save Bucky, not in his current state of mind. He was a danger to himself and others, a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. But they had to at least try.
"I don't know if I can do that." Steve's uncertainty mirrored Indigo's own, a reflection of the doubts that gnawed at the edges of her resolve. How could they stop someone who didn't understand the consequences of their actions?
As Steve turned to leave, a sense of urgency washed over Indigo, driving her to speak out. "There is no way we can do that," she interjected, her voice filled with a desperate plea for reason. "He doesn't understand what he's doing."
"Well, he might not give you a choice. He doesn't know you." Sam interjects.
But Steve's determination remained unwavering, his resolve unshakeable in the face of adversity. "He will," he declared, a note of certainty creeping into his voice. "Gear up, it's time."
As he walked away, leaving Indigo to grapple with the weight of his words, she couldn't help but wonder if they were making a mistake.
