Indigo felt a gentle sensation on her skin; she opened her eyes to find herself in a dimly lit room. Quickly scanning her surroundings, she realized she was in a small hospital room.
Her head throbbed painfully, and she reached up to touch the bandage wrapped around her head.
Indigo started at the sudden appearance of a woman in a white lab coat.
"Ah, Miss Evergreen. I'm glad you have finally woken up," the woman said in a thick accent. "My name is Asha. I have been taking care of you for the past couple of days."
Indigo felt panic surge through her body. A couple of days?
"Please, calm down. You are safe. Mr. Rogers and Barnes are in the room next to yours," Asha reassured her.
Indigo winced as Asha began to remove the wrapping from her head.
"Where... where am I?" Indigo croaked.
"Mr. Rogers brought you to Wakanda," Asha explained as she assessed Indigo's wound.
Wakanda? What about T'Challa and Bucky? Why would Steve bring them here?
"I need to see James," Indigo insisted, pulling away from the woman.
"I will take you to him in a moment; let me redress your leg first," Asha said calmly, moving down to attend to Indigo's leg.
Indigo hadn't felt the pain in her leg; the throbbing in her head had overwhelmed her entire body. It wasn't until Asha unwrapped her leg that Indigo saw the wound. It appeared mostly healed, but the pain emanating from it was still intense.
Indigo let out a groan as she sat up, wincing as Asha carefully redressed her wounded leg.
"Okay, let's get you up and out of bed. But if you feel any discomfort, you're back here immediately," Asha said, offering Indigo a supportive hand.
Indigo rose slowly, testing her weight on her feet. Standing caused pain, but she gritted her teeth and took a tentative step forward on her left leg, feeling a sharp ache shoot through her body. Pausing briefly, she gathered herself and pressed on. She needed to see Bucky.
With Asha's arm for support, Indigo steadied herself as they made their way to the door. Asha opened it carefully, and Indigo glanced around. They were in a sleek, futuristic building with predominantly white walls and an abundance of advanced technology scattered throughout the space.
Indigo turned to find Steve standing there, watching them with concern. He approached them slowly.
"I'll take her from here, Asha. Thank you," Steve said, extending his arm towards Indigo. She reached out and gripped his arm tightly for support.
"Remember what I said, if you need anything just come back here," Asha said, her gaze lingering on Indigo.
"Thank you, Asha," Indigo replied with a grateful nod, before shifting her attention back to Steve.
