Having swiftly departed from Bucky's place, Indigo wasted no time in reaching out to Tony, her fingers deftly dialing his number as she navigated the bustling streets of Bucharest. With each ring, her anticipation grew, her heart pounding in her chest as she waited for him to pick up.
Finally, Tony's voice crackled through the line, his tone urgent and determined. "Indigo, where are you?" he demanded, his words cutting through the static with a sense of urgency.
"I'm on my way to the airstrip," Indigo replied, her voice tinged with a mixture of relief and apprehension. "But you don't need to come get me. I'll be there soon."
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line, followed by Tony's swift response. "No, Indigo, listen to me. We found a big Hydra base in Sokovia. I think Loki's sector is there, so we need to move fast."
Jogging towards the Quinjet, Indigo's heart felt heavy in her chest, a dull ache that threatened to overwhelm her as she fought to hold back the tears threatening to spill from her eyes. Bucky's rejection weighed on her, the sting of his words echoing in her mind with each pounding step.
He broke my heart, she thought bitterly, the pain of his rejection cutting deep as she struggled to make sense of the whirlwind of emotions swirling within her. It didn't matter that he claimed to be trying to protect her; all she could focus on was the raw ache of betrayal gnawing at her insides.
But even amidst the anguish of her shattered dreams, a part of Indigo couldn't help but cling to the hope that had blossomed between them. She wanted nothing more than to protect Bucky from himself, to shield him from the demons that haunted his past. Yet how could she do that if he refused to let her in?
The realization hit her like a punch to the gut, the weight of her helplessness pressing down on her with an unbearable force. She couldn't protect him if he kicked her out, couldn't shield him from the darkness lurking within his own soul.
As she reached the Quinjet, her breaths came in ragged gasps, her chest heaving with the effort of holding back the flood of tears threatening to overwhelm her. With a shaky hand, she wiped away the moisture clinging to her cheeks, willing herself to remain composed despite the storm raging within her.
Indigo watched as the hatch came down, revealing Tony striding out with his characteristic flair. His voice echoed through the hangar, sharp with frustration as he zeroed in on her.
"Willow, what the hell took you so long? I've called you like a thousand times!" Tony's words reverberated in the cavernous space, carrying an edge of impatience that matched the urgency of their mission.
Indigo met Tony's gaze with a cool composure, her expression unreadable as she stepped forward to meet him. "You called twice, Tony, and I was a little busy," she replied evenly, her voice tinged with a hint of exasperation.
