Lute's pov

I watched in the shadows as a battered looking Adam headed into the bar. I felt a flash of anger. Why did such a decent guy have to end up like this? This feeling of helplessness. It's all too fermillier.

I headed outside after him, keeping a distance from him. It's not that I didn't think he could handle himself, I've seen him in combat with my own two eyes but clearly he's a lot more vulnerable than I thought.

He sat at the table, drowning his fifth bottle. I sighed. Oh Adam, you're not going to find any answers at the bottom of a bottle. Trust me I've been looking down there long enough.

Suddenly a group of men approached him "hey hot stuff, mind if we take you outside for a bit"

He sighed "whatever" he was about to stand up when I pushed him back, turning to the others with a card patterned spear in my hands.

"Back up now!" I growled.

"Lute!" Adam yelped.

"You're the one who needs to back up bitch!" The tallest one took a swing at me. A narrowly dodged, cutting his arm into ribbons.

"Come on!" I grabbed his hand and rushed out the door with him.

"Lute stop!" He struggled against me.

"We are going home!" I said firmly "you are not stable enough to be out where freaks can pray on you"

"I don't need you to fucking baby me!" He pulled away roughly.

"Well what do you want!" I yelled at him and he walked away "would you rather we acted like we didn't care? Would that make things easier!?"

"I don't know!" He turned to me with teary eyes "I don't know what I want. I don't know what to do. This whole thing is just so fucked. I wish I never dragged any of you into it" he sat down on the pavement, hugging his knees.

I sat down next to him "I used to be an angel" he looked up in shock "yeah. I was top of my class too, becoming an extrocist angel in under a year. After a while in hell I discovered the power of souls. I gathered them up in secret and gambled them away for money. Everything was going well until he came along. One bad gamble led to my soul being claimed and the higher-ups kicked me out of heaven. So believe me when I say I understand what it's like to make a bad decision and knowing you can't take it back"

He stayed silent. I looked over at him and smiled "So things look bad and your backs against the wall. Your whole existence seems fucking hopeless. You're feeling filthy as a dive bar bathroom stall" I noticed a man about to throw up on the boy so I grabbed an umbrella and covered him "can't face the world sober and dopeless" I spun the vomit off as I continued.

"You lost your way, you think your life is wrecked. Well let me just say you're correct!"

"Wait what?" His head shot off.

"You're a loser baby, a loser goddamn baby! You're a fucked up little whiney bitch" I booped his nose.

"Hey!"

"You're a loser just like me" I smirked.

"Thanks asshole!"

"You're a smooth booze cruiser, an only one star reviewer you're a power bottom at rock bottom but you've got company"

"Is this supposed to make me feel better!?"

"There was a time I thought that no one could relate, to the gruesome ways in which I'm damaged" he looked up at my word "but letting your walls down it can sometimes set you straight" I used my umbrella to protect him from an explosion "We're all living in the same shit sandwich" I held my hand out which he slowly took.

"I sold my soul to a psychopathic freak" he started to sing along.

I laughed "and you think that makes you unique? Get out of here" I leaned in and held out my hand. He looked surprised but slowly took it. I helped him to his feet and gently led him in a waltz.

"We're both losers baby we're losers it's okay to be a-"

"Drunken dick sucking hoe?"

"Baby that's fine by me" I said, making him smile.

"I'm a loser honey a snoozer and a dummy but at least I know I'm not alone"

"You're a loser just like me" we sung together.

"I've got an appetite for gambling"

"I've got an appetite for sampling every alcoholic beverage I can find"

"Go ahead baby sing that song come on!"

"I've got no holes left to deflower" signs appeared saying slut, abandoned by heaven, all alone.

"I sold my soul to gain my power" signs appeared saying failure, gambling addict, obedient dog "and now I'm on that demons leash"

"I'm trapped and it gets worse with every hour" we leaned against each other.

"You're a loser baby"

"A loser but just maybe if we-"

"Eat shit together things will end up differently" he held out his hand this time which I happily took.

"It's time to lose your self loathing, excuse yourself let hope in baby" we danced together and this time he looked more relaxed. His wings even came out as he grabbed me and flew to the rooftop "play your cards be who you are"

"A loser just like-"

"There they are- they're fucking singing?!" Our moment was cut off by the gang from before, guns pointed at us.

"You ready?" I turned to him with a grin.

"Born ready" he cracked his knuckles "let's do this shit!"
