Lucifer's pov
"So a hotel huh. That's fun" Charlie forced a smile on her face. The two of us sat on the balcony talking. It was good to see her again.
"You don't have to force yourself honey. I want you to be honest with me" I gave him a reassuring smile.
"Okay how's this for honestly. I think this whole thing is stupid!"
"Charlie!"
"No! Why put yourself on the line for these people?" She folded her arms "they don't appreciate you, hell they treat you and mom like a laughing stock! They aren't worthy of redemption and when this whole thing eventually crashes and burns you're going to be left the same sad and depressed mess you were when I was a kid"
"Charlie" my heart broke for her. How could I put my daughter through this kind of stress. Forgive me Charlie, I'm a terrible father "it's not like that. I-"
We were cut off by an explosion outside. We rushed downstairs to find the shark mafia trying to break in.
"Ya see dad, this is exaaactly what I'm talking about" Charlie stared at me smugly as the others fought them off "You build something nice, you invite people in and offer them everything and they just bring violence and chaos to your doorstep. It doesn't matter how well intentioned you are, they're always going to disappoint you-"
"That's enough!" I snapped at her "Charlie these people aren't perfect but they're fighting for me and this hotel. Why can they believe in me and my own child can't" Charlie shot me a guilty look "Charlie please, have a little faith in me"
"I can't" her voice broke.
"Why not-"
"Dad!" She grabbed my shoulders, trembling slightly "you don't understand. Heaven never listens. They didn't listen to you before! Why would they start now!"
"You don't know that-"
"I do!" I was cut off guard by the amount of pain plastered on her face "you didn't know that when, you tried this all before. Your dreams were too hard to defend"
She threw some magic down, coating the area in gold "and in the end, I won't lose you all again" imagery of me sitting alone in my study depressed flashed by "don't you see that we're the only thing worth fighting for!" She pulled me closer "more than anything, more than anything, I shelter and adore you more than anything" she held me close.
"Charlie I don't need you to protect me from this" I gently pushed her away.
"I just don't want you to be crushed by them. Not again" her eyes held a vulnerability I've never seen before.
"Char" I sighed "when I was young I didn't really take part at all" memories of me sitting alone while the others worked on the earth without me "I always felt so small but I met your mother and I was enthralled" I remember how Charlie would come over, asking to hear my story over and over again "tales about my lofty dreams, you'd listened breathlessly, you make me think of what I could be"
"So in the end, its really all thanks to you" I put my fingers out to frame her "you showed me dreams can be worth fighting for. More than anything, more than anything. I need to save my family more than anything"
A smile returned to her face "I've been dying to find out who you are"
"I've been waiting, wanting the same thing!
"Looks like the apple didn't fall far" I smiled at her."took you a while" she rolled her eyes.
"I missed that smile" I cupped her face with gentle eyes.
"Now all I'm hoping" Lilith took our hands as we danced together, the three of us singing like old times "now that my eyes are open, is that we can start again, not be pulled apart again" my wings sprouted out as I carried my wife and daughter to the sky "cause in the end, you are part of who I am"
"I'll support your dreams no matter what lies in store" she smiled softly as I carried her through the sky.
"And who can ask for more" I kissed her forehead.
"More than anything"
"More than anything"
"More than anything"
"More than anything"
"I'm grateful you're my family more than anything" we embraced each other with tears in our eyes "more than anything" we landed softly on our feet as the song ended.
"Dad I trust you" she sqeezed my hands "I'm scared out of my mind for you but I trust you"
"And that's all we could ask for" Lilith kissed the top of her head.
"Any chance I could stay here" she played with her hair sheepishly.
"Of course you can. I missed you so much!" I pulled her in for a hug. I have my daughter back. Things really couldn't be going any better!
