"But why do I have to do it?" she whined, crossing her arms across her chest and stomping her foot. Her older brother, Malachi, raised his eyebrows at her outburst.

"Because He told you to," he replied.

"No," she argued. "He didn't tell me anything. The Archangels told you to tell me because they didn't want to deal with my temper tantrum. Right?"

Malachi sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "It has to be you, little sister. It's been written in The Stars since time began. You know that."

"Yeah, but—"

"No, little sister," said Malachi, holding his hand up to silence her. "You've known for eons. I don't see why you are so upset about it now. Are you nervous?"

She scoffed. "Angels don't get nervous!"

"Sister," he chided. "You know better than that. Angels have emotions too. In some angels, emotions are more prominent than others. It is the way He made us."

"Fine," she sighed. "I'm nervous, okay?"

"It's normal to be nervous for your first Slide," explained Malachi. "I was nervous too. Trust me. You'll do fine."

Her eyes turned to the misty gap in the sunshine.

The Slide had been used for several millenniums. It was mainly used for souls who have been chosen to live upon the Earth with all His creatures. As the souls descend down the Slide, a veil is placed over their mind so they won't remember living in Above. Only when they die, do the souls remember who they really are. But recently, the souls with flesh have been destroying His creation, so He sends Angels through the Slide to receive bodies of their own to play their part in saving the Earth.

Angels with flesh don't receive veils in their minds. They walk the Earth knowing whom they were and what they're supposed to do. Part of the reason why she was nervous was because of the specific task He had bestowed upon her. Another reason is she was going to be the first Angel to go to Earth and receive a veil.

"Don't worry, little sister," said Malachi, his hands gripping her shoulders. "The veil will lift when the time is right. And when it does, I will be there with you."

She nodded and glanced back at the mist. "Don't let me fail, Malachi," she said, turning her gaze to her brother. Of all the Angels in Above, Malachi was the only one who dared talk to her. Because of her unique task, she was set apart since her beginning. The other Angels, her siblings, kept their distance from her. They were afraid of her. She didn't remember how many centuries it took before Malachi got up the nerve to talk to her. Since then, they'd been inseparable.

"I won't, little sister," he swore.

Gently, he pushed her to the mist. She took hesitant steps forward. Automatically, her feet pulled her towards the Slide. Seconds before the mist took her, she called out, "Don't forget me, brother!"

Even if she had heard a voice reply, she wouldn't have known who had said it or where it came from. The veil had taken her.
