Rio's POV
Silvanna and Alvin Sanchez's memorial service was long. If Rio had decided to have separate services, each event would be at most an hour long. However, Rio thought because her parents were married and were head over heels for each other, they would share their funeral services. Combined, the service was two and a half hours long. People kept going up to the microphone and talking about how great of a man Alvin was and how wonderfully sweet Silvanna was.
Rio just wanted it over.
She wasn't in the mood to listen to Nosy Nelson from the grocery store talk about his 'adventure' in the meat department. Rio already knew her parents were being taken care of in Above, so she didn't fully recognize that she was supposed to pretend to be human still. The people around her would have thought it was rude for her to get up and leave in the middle of her own parent's service. So Rio stayed where she was and tolerated soggy kisses on her cheeks, much-too-long hugs from 'family friends,' and empty words of sympathy.
She finally realized that when something tragic happens, you finally know who your real friends are. Everywhere she turned, people wore fake masks of friendship. Her only solace was with the de la Vega pack. When she was around Oz and his werewolf friends, she felt as if she was home. She felt safe when she was with them.
These, she had thought, are my real friends.
The burial wasn't that exciting either. The priest said a few words and a random funeral home staff member sunk her parents six feet underground. Finally seeing her parent's bodies being lowered into the ground, Rio let all her floodgates open up. That day, she had held onto the tears for long enough. It was time to cry for the loss of her earthly parents. It was time to let go.
So it's not as long as it was going to be. But that's because I decided to see Fantastic Four and write so there! Ha.
This was mostly a filler chapter, so it's just sort of making the plot line go quicker. I don't want to keep this going for a long time.
Once I complete the book, I might just combine some chapters with others and just put little thingies (~~~~) between the parts.
Alright, Loves.
I'm yawning myself asleep.
Goodnight!
