Rio's POV
Silvanna and Alvin Sanchez left the house at 6:38pm for their date night, leaving their only child home alone. Taj, Rio's three-year-old pit bull stood at the door, his ears perked up and his lips curled back in a growl. Rio lay on the couch, watching the newest episode of Pretty Little Liars, when Taj suddenly started barking.
Rio sighed and turned off her show. She peeked out the window next to the door and tipped her head back to ask the ceiling why Oz de la Vega was on her porch.
She took a deep breath and opened the door, trying to push Taj behind her, but the stubborn dog stood protectively in front of her. Rio folded her arms across her chest. "What do you want, Oz?"
"Have you thought about my question yet?" he asked, glancing at the growling pit bull at his feet. His hands slid into his jean pockets. He looked uncomfortable standing there with a fearsome dog between him and Rio.
"It's barely been a day, Oz," sighed Rio. She ran her fingers through her long dark hair. "Let me think about it some more."
She started to close the door on him, but Oz slipped his foot between the door, stopping her from shutting him out.
"Please," he begged. "Please go on a date with me."
In all of Rio's seventeen years of knowing Oscar de la Vega, she had never seen him beg anyone for anything, so it startled her when his words held so much of the tone. Rio glanced at Taj. His black body blocked Oz from coming any closer to her. She was grateful for that, but at the same time, his protectiveness got a little annoying.
I want you to really think about it. Her mother's words echoed through Rio's mind, pushing her to consider her options.
One: she could say no and sit on the couch and watch Pretty Little Liars and waste her Friday night
Or two: she could say yes and find out why she doesn't like the de la Vega's. And maybe, just maybe, realize that they aren't half bad.
Rio bit her lip and stared at Taj's back.
"Okay."
Surprise visit from Oz? What!!?
She even said yes to a date. O. M. G..!
