Rio's POV
"Are you ready now?" Oz asked Rio. The excitement on his face was clear. Rio didn't fully understand why she agreed to go out with him anyway.
"Now now?" asked Rio. Her mouth hung open in shock.
"Yeah."
"Uhm..." Rio glanced at her pajama shorts and tank top. "Give me a few minutes, will you?"
Oz nodded. "Sure."
Rio snapped her fingers at her pit bull. "Taj. Come."
His large black head whipped around to look at her with his dark brown eyes. He didn't move even when she opened the door wider for Oz to step through. He wasn't going to let him in.
"Please, not tonight, Taj," Rio pleaded. "Come inside and leave him alone. Taj!"
At the sound of Rio's stressed voice, his jaws snapped shut and he walked backwards into the house, never letting his eyes leave Oz. Rio sighed in relief. Taj wouldn't hurt Oz unless he physically hurt Rio. She motioned with her arms that he should come inside to wait.
"I have to go change then I'll be down," Rio said as Oz stepped through the doorway. She ran her fingers through her hair again and glanced at her protective Taj. To Oz, she said, "Don't do anything stupid and he won't hurt you."
Rio watched Oz nod his head in agreement before she ran up the stairs to change, leaving Oscar de la Vega in the front room with Taj.
God, please don't let any harm come to him, Rio prayed. The prayer made her feel a little bit better. But she wasn't really sure which him she was asking about.
Sooo.... Is Rio worried more about Taj getting hurt? Or Oz? What's going on in that little brain of hers?
