Rio's POV
Two Days Earlier:
"When do you come back home?" Rio asked, sliding her arms around Oz's waist.
"I'll be gone for two days, love," he replied, kissing her forehead. "I'll have my phone on me at all times, if you need me. You'll be fine. I promise. You're a de la Vega now."
Rio's heart swelled with the thought. Grabbing his neck to pull him closer, she captured his lips with hers, kissing him with a ferocity. His hands cupped her butt cheeks as he lifted her off the floor. Rio wrapped her legs around his waist and deepened the kiss.
"Oz! Man, come on. Let's go!" interrupted Vincent. Rio glanced to the doorway where her cousin-in-law stood with an armful of camping supplies. Her glance turned to a glare when he continued with "You can kiss her when we get back."
Oz sighed and carefully set Rio back on her feet. He squeezed her butt. Rio blushed a bright red and bit her lip. Looking up at Oz with dark eyes, she said, "You should go. Vince isn't going to wait forever. And I bet Andre is pacing outside the house too."
Oz chuckled and said, "You're probably right."
"I'm always right," scoffed Rio.
"Except when we're late!" Vincent cut in.
"Go," Rio laughed. "I'll be here when you get back."
Oz smiled and leaned down for one last kiss before leaving for the weekend. From the porch, Rio watched her mate and his friends leave for the annual hunting trip. She glanced at her watch.
In about an hour, Alice Grace was coming over to watch scary movies with her. Rio had called her friend because she didn't want to be alone in the huge house. Walking back into the house, Rio closed and locked the front door before heading to the living room to await Alice Grace's arrival. The house was silent as she opened her sketchbook. With her charcoal pencil firmly grasped in her hand she begun drawing, intertwining her thoughts with reality.
Unexpectedly, the sound of shattering glass crushed her train of thought. Her hand slipped across the page, ruining her drawing with a smudge of blackness. Rio didn't have time to use her angelic ability to see who was intruding her home before she herself was succumbed to blackness.
Oh my dang.
