Rio's POV
A horrible scream ripped from her chest as another wave of pain twisted its way through her body. Rio clutched her stomach as if her fingers would keep away the agony.
She was eight months pregnant! She shouldn't be having contractions this early!
Rio let out an ear shattering scream when, minutes later, another torrent of pain swept through her.
Rio almost didn't notice the heavy door open to her cement box, and she almost didn't notice strong arms lifting her from her crouched position on the cold floor. The strong man was practically running down the hallway with Rio in his arms.
"Rio?" a familiar voice asked her. Rio blinked slowly, carefully lifting her head to see who was speaking to her.
"Andre," she whispered. She clenched her teeth with the next contraction. "They're coming, Andre."
"No, they aren't," he replied. "Your water didn't break yet."
"Yes, it did," she said with a weak voice. Just as she said the words, warmth spread from between her legs, soaking her sweatpants.
"Doctor! We need to move! Now!" Andre shouted at the frantic people washing their hands and putting gloves on. Andre set Rio on the bed made for childbirth and moved to hold her hand. Rio squeezed his fingers so tightly he thought they would fall off. The nurses in the room begun cutting away Rio's soaked pants and prepared her for delivering her babies.
"It's okay, Rio," said Andre, petting her sweating forehead. "I'm here. Everything will be okay. You'll see."
"You're a traitor," Rio hissed at him. "I don't want you in here. I don't want you to— AHHH!!!!"
Andre flinched as Rio screamed through the contraction.
"Push!" the doctor shouted, sticking his head under the blue cloth the nurses had draped over Rio's knees.
Moments later, a tiny scream echoed throughout the room. A smile broke through Rio's expression of pain as she realized that scream was for her. It was her baby. For eight months, she had made that tiny noise.
Rio's eyes followed the nurse with her baby in her arms, confused at where she was going with it.
"Andre," she asked the man who had refused to leave. She didn't have to finish her question. Andre already knew what she was asking.
"It's a girl," he replied.
"A girl!" Rio breathed in awe. "Roslyn Flor de la Vega. Do I get to hold her?"
Andre gave her a small sad smile and turned his head away from her. Rio already knew, though. She already knew the answer to her last question. She wouldn't get to see her daughter. She wouldn't get to hear her laugh or see her walk.
What Rio was doing now, giving her daughter a name, was cruel to no one but herself. Having the knowledge of a daughter with a name would come back to haunt Rio in the future. But Rio had no idea why she felt like naming her daughter. Perhaps she felt as if she knew her babies had a name, it wouldn't be a dream.
"Push!" the doctor shouted again.
With a shrill scream from Rio, another baby popped out.
"Boy," Andre announced.
"Enrique Leon de la Vega," Rio blurted. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she heard her son cry for his mother. Desperately, Rio twisted her neck to watch the nurse carefully for any sight of her son, but to no avail.
"Okay, Maria," the doctor said. "One more."
A screech echoed through the room as Rio pushed her final baby out of it's comfy home. An additional cry washed over Rio's ears, making Rio's soft cries upgrade to sobs.
Rio waited for Andre to tell her the gender of her last baby, but she realized Andre wasn't next to her anymore. He was standing with his back to her, his head bent over something he held in his arms.
"Andre?" she asked weakly.
Looking over his shoulder, Andre said, "Boy."
A sob racked through Rio's body as she watched her traitorous friend walk out of the room with her baby in his arms. The other two nurses followed him out, never giving her a single glance.
"Te quiero, Santos Reyes de la Vega," Rio whispered to her youngest son. "I love you all. I'll see you again. There is no such thing as goodbye for forever."
Awwww! Ain't that super sad!?
I think I just shed a tear!
What'd you think of the names of the triplets?
Roslyn Flor de la Vega?
Enrique Leon de la Vega?
Santos Reyes de la Vega?
And where did Andre take them!? What is even going on in this chapter?
Who knows?
Hahaha. Sorry, Loves. I'm not allowed to tell you.
Read. Comment. Vote!
Bye, loves!
