Chapter Twenty-Nine

Oz's POV

Oz parked his car in Rio's driveway and got out to open her door for her. As she stretched out her muscles, he started to lead her up the walkway. When they reached the door, Oz knew something was wrong. The locks were broken and a coppery scent filled his nose.

"Stay behind me," grunted Oz. Unable to stifle the growl that escaped his lips, he tugged Rio behind him and sniffed the air for intruders. His alpha instincts told him to get his mate out of there, but his brain wanted to know why he smell of death was in the air.

"What? Why?" asked Rio.

Oz glanced at both of the cars in the driveway. Oz trained his ears to search the house in front of him. He listened for any signs of life. But only the sound of coffee dripping into a cup echoed through his eardrums. Something was wrong. Something bad.

As calm as he could possibly be, Oz turned to Rio and told her to stay on the porch step. "Do not follow me in, Rio. Understand?"

Rio nodded absentmindedly. She was too focused on the broken locks. Oz snapped his fingers in front of her face. "I understand."

"Stay here," he repeated, kissing her forehead. Without another word, Oz entered the house with all his senses on high alert.

Blood was everywhere.

Oz growled as his eyes scanned the front room. What was left of Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez littered the floor in a sick artwork. Clothes were strewn throughout the room and blood was splattered on the walls. Oz tread down the hallway, careful not to touch anything in the crime scene. Oz pulled out his phone and dialed 911.

"911. What's your emergency?" a woman answered.

"There's been a murder," Oz replied. "1478 21st Lane Wywano, New Mexico."

He ended the call and continued through the house. Oz sucked in a breath when he saw the living room wall. There, written in blood, was a message Oz was sure was for him.

We're coming for her.

OOOOOOHHHHHHH SHIZ!

A lot of things happened in this chapter.

1st) Oz kissed Rio's forehead!!!! How cute!?

2nd) Uhm.... Rio's parents were murdered!? What!?

3rd) The people who murdered her parents are after Rio? What in the actual frick?

4th) What do the murderers want with Rio?

That was the big stuff that was happening..... Yeah.

It's short. But I think it's okay for now, right?

I get off work tomorrow late, so I might not update tomorrow. Hopefully you'll all be satisfied with just these two parts..... Yes? Good.

P.S. That picture isn't blood. I specifically searched 'splatter of red paint on a wall' and that's what came up.... It's just meant to look like blood. But it isn't.
