Rio's POV
With wide, terrified eyes, Rio hobbled to her bed as fast as she could with an eight-month huge belly and swollen feet. Being eight months pregnant, she had no real way to walk around normally with a belly as big as she was.
Malachi had told her she was a month pregnant when she was taken. Which meant she had become pregnant sometime during her honeymoon. And then seven months later, there she was with a stomach which almost reached her knees when she sat down.
"You have to go!" Rio hissed to her brother as she slid into the bed. "They'll know you're here!"
The sound of a key sliding into the lock made Rio's heart jump in fear for her brother. But she hadn't needed to be afraid. Malachi was already gone by the time Silas, the leader of the group who took her, opened the door and stepped inside.
"Good evening, my dear," the tall, pale man said. His voice sent shivers down Rio's spine. For seven months, she listened to that evil sound tell her lies and false hopes. The man's gray eyes flicked to the stack of books Rio discarded onto the cement floor. "I see you haven't touched the books I gave you on childbirth."
Rio kept her lips tightly shut, refusing to give in to Silas's petty games. The anger in her eyes followed his every move as he bent to pick one off the floor.
He wiped the dust of the front cover and said aloud, "You should really read these. They'll help you in labor."
"Oz debería ayudar en el parto," Rio spat, anger dripping from her lips. "He should be here. Helping me. Not some... books!"
Silas nodded in an understanding way that made Rio clench her jaw. He began, "I know, Maria. And he would have if he had just stayed with you that afternoon..."
Rio let out a low growl.
"Oh, wait!" laughed Silas. "He couldn't have. We would have taken you anyway."
"It's a miracle you're still alive," muttered Rio.
"Oh, no, honey," Silas said in a smooth voice, stepping towards her bed. He reached a hand out to pat her knee and said, "It's a miracle you're still alive."
And with that, he turned on his heel and walked out of the room. Rio quickly followed suit, waddling to the door as fast as she could. But it was slammed in her face. Again.
No matter how hard she tried, she would never get out.
Rio leaned her head against the door and sighed. Normally, her tradition of trying to get out through the door left her with nothing. But this time, something was different. She heard voices.
Rio pressed her ear to the door and quieted her breathing.
A sinister voice said, "She's almost ready. Maybe a couple of weeks and then our plan will continue."
"You've been saying that for the last month! How long are we going to keep her? We've already had her for long enough! We can't waste anymore resources on her," another voice joined in. Except this time, it was familiar.
Rio concluded the first speaker was Silas.
But whom is he talking to? she asked herself.
"Just a few more weeks," Silas said. "And then we'll move to phase two of our plan."
A sharp pain rang throughout her body, radiating from her pelvic area. With a hiss, she ignored the pain and pressed her ear to the door with more force than before. The voices had started to get farther and farther away, but Rio could still make out the last part of the conversation:
"Don't worry, Andre."
Coincidence!?
I. THINK. NOT!!!!!!
Hahahaha!
I updated. Finally.
You're all welcome.
By the way, I should probably tell you there's not many chapters left. The story is about to come to a close. I'm sorry. But I'm not sorry at the same time.
Because then I can focus on my other stories.
So I guess this is goodbye. ;)
