Damian

I had no idea where I was, but I wanted to leave hastily. There was an overwhelming feeling around me. It felt like something was strangling my throat making it hard to breathe.

The surroundings were pitch black almost like I was locked in a large room. My heart was pounding hard against my chest and I was feeling scared. Though, I had to torment Fred's soul if I wanted to get out of it.

My eyes scanned the darkness, the emptiness within him. I wasn't sure what to expect after walking into someone else's soul, but I never thought my very first one would be so depressing and empty.

From my knowledge that I gained by reading the book Malcolm gave me, was that a soul represented a person's feelings, mind, and will of that person. It was also their affections and desires. Seeing only darkness in Fred's soul was like I was punched in the gut.

I sighed softly then shook my head.
"This way tormenting his soul will be easier because it almost lacks meaning." I said then turned to the bracelet and held onto the skull pendant. I twisted it to the left and red flames danced around my arms. They didn't burn me, but I did feel a bit powerful while being engulfed in them.

A devil fork was materialized in amidst the flames. I inhaled softly and held it. The burning texture of the object caused me to wince in pain. A heavy burden filled my heart which made me question my morals and values. What was I doing?

Those thoughts had to halt because the power of the fork needed me to direct it towards the soul or it was going to spiral out of control and kill Fred. Flashbacks of me killing Brycen played through my eyes.

"What is the difference now?" I asked myself then swallowed hard and turned back to the devil's fork. Only torment his soul. You're not murdering him. You can do this.

"Okay." I whispered under my breath then closed my eyes to focus on directing the power to the soul. When I felt it was where it needed to be I stabbed the space on my left with the devil's fork.

                             💀

Chase

I widened my eyes in shock while watching the unconscious human move around while laying on the ground.
"He actually did it." I whispered in disbelief.
"You give that human less credit than he is accounted for." I froze from that voice and turned around to see Matthew landing a few feet behind me.

"You." I said through gritted teeth.
"Surprise, surprise." The angel smirked.
"What do you want Matthew?" I asked as his white wings turned into white dove feathers before disappearing.
"You already know what I want Chase." He said. "Do you know how many lives you devils took of our people?"
"For the last time, we weren't the ones who almost brought the other side to its knees." I said.

The true nature of our war; a misunderstanding. Years ago a figure had attacked heaven and almost destroyed everything. I mean, everything. The unknown figure had destroyed heaven so much that it almost took the world down with it.

Knowing our nature and hunger for power the angels immediately turned to us. It was a back and forth debate until they lost patience and decided to fight the 'truth' out of us. We devils didn't back down either and fought for our pride, and honour. There was no proof that backed up the angels' claim, nor there was to back up ours.

"Stop lying Chase. I know the truth. We all do." Matthew said with rage for his fallen comrades beaming through his light blue eyes. I inhaled softly.
"I don't want to fight you Matthew. If you're looking for a fight. Find another devil." I hissed. Leaving Damian alone for too long didn't seem wise. Especially, when that angel was there.

I briefly turned to the body that had stopped moving causing me to worry. What happened?
"I don't care if you want to fight or not. If you surrender I can just throw you in the dungeons back in heaven where you will suffer for eternity till you admit that it was you devils who destroyed us." Matthew hissed. My focus was mostly on Damian and the body. I bit my bottom lip and naturally thought the worst.

Though, I had to turn back to the angel after he spoke. "Or should I kill the human instead and make him the prince of hell for eternity? I can only imagine how your pride and dignity will fall by a human bossing you around." He said then his right hand was engulfed in blue flames.

"No." I said getting into position to fight him. Though, I wasn't fast enough because he pushed me back with his powers. I winced after I crashed on a building nearby. I tried to get up, but I was too late and the angel had taken away Fred's soul and Damian along with him.
"Well, that was easy." Matthew said.

I tried to get up again, but I quickly realized that my right leg was smashed by one of the rocks that fell after I crashed into the building. I panted heavily feeling panic over pain. I grunted while attempting to push the rock away, but it was too heavy.
"Fuck." I hissed tossing my head back in agony.

"Now, time to send a message to the devils." Matthew said closing his fist that he had used to collect Fred's soul. By doing so he was sealing it in his hold. The blue flame dimmed out then the angel shot out a beam of white light to the wall above me. I heard a crack then a huge rock was falling towards me. I flinched and looked away.

However, I don't feel any pain. Instead, the rock was blasted by a red beam turning it to smaller rocks that scattered around. I furrowed my eyebrows then turned to the front. I blinked astonishingly, but flinched when a small rock hit my head. I winced then rubbed my head.
"That's for the teleportation earlier." Damian said turning to me by the corner of his eye then winked. I paused and stared at him in disbelief.

Matthew was speechless and confused.
"How? You were still in that human's soul." He said.
"No. I left a few minutes after you showed up but I hid behind that wall on your right." Damian said then smiled. "I believe you wanted to kill me?"
"Damian?" I called him incredulously. Was he crazy?

Meanwhile, Matthew recovered from his shock and smirked.
"I still want to actually." He said then aimed his palm towards the human. I wanted to get up and push that crazy human away, but my leg was still stuck. I froze when Damian held my hand and snapped his fingers teleporting us out of there leaving Matthew to hit the wall in vain.

A/N: I did do some research about what a soul is. From what I gathered it is the mind, feelings, and will of a person. It is also their affections and desires.

Now, because Fred murdered his co-worker I figured that he might feel empty and dark. I am not sure if I did portray that well. Please let me know your thoughts in the comments

Anyway, thank you so much for reading. Please don't forget to vote ✨

Okay, see you in the next chapter. Byee ❤️
