Damian

I almost couldn't concentrate after he was holding my body like that. I dumbly thought he would take things differently, but of course Chase was a workaholic and after killing his boss he would hate me with every fiber of his being.

"Don't mind him. He's always like that." The third member of the council said. He told me his name which was, Malcolm and he was really patient with me compared to Chase. He also got me a sandwich which I humbly appreciated.

I sighed softly then took a bite of my sandwich while Malcolm was drinking his cup of coffee. We were in his office where he wanted to fill me in on what exactly I was supposed to do as the leader of hell. I was relieved to know that I wasn't going to remain clueless for eternity.
"I guess." I softly said not turning to him.

"Damian?" Malcolm called making me turn to him. "I know you're overwhelmed right now but we need you focused. The world's balance is depending on you. There has to be a balance between good and evil. You have to make sure that evil is not too much or too little in this world."
"What if I mess up?" I asked. "I mean, I am a human Malcolm. I know nothing about being a devil or ruling hell."

"That's what I wanted to talk to you about." Malcolm said waving his hand on the desk below us. Black foggy smoke materialized out of nowhere and slowly as the smoke faded a large black book with a golden lock appeared. I watched the devil in anticipation as he tapped the lock twice. It opened from his touch. He then turned the book to face me. "You will need to read this. Chase will help you get stronger faster." Malcolm explained.

First, my heart sank at how thick the book was, second it sank from the amount of hours I was going to put in studying everything, and third it sank even further at the mention that I had to work with Chase.

I scoffed then turned to the devil in disbelief.
"You can't be serious." I said.
"Does it look like I'm not?" He asked raising his right eyebrow then dropped it as he turned to the book. "You have to memorize every single rule in there."
"Every single one?" I asked incredulously.

"Look, as much as we are devils and we don't believe in rules but those rules in that book have to be followed whether we like it or not." Malcolm explained then rose from his chair. "I have to go now. See you some other time. I already scheduled your training with Chase. You'll both be fine." If only I could believe him.

I tried stopping the devil from disappearing but he left before I could even utter a word. I sighed heavily then turned to the thick book on the table. I groaned exasperated while leaning back on my chair.
"Oh well." I sighed turning to the gigantic book. ✓
