Chase
The morning was lovely with dark stormy grey clouds, a large gush of wind, dying trees, and no Sun in the sky.
However, like every morning it was always ruined by that dark haired human who nauseated me with his bright smile and optimistic attitude.
"Hey Chase." He beamed making me frown.
"Let's get straight into it." I said then walked past him. He followed behind me with his short legs. "I believe today is your first day working as a devil?" I asked not meeting his gaze.
"Yep. I'm ready to do some devil work and create great destruction on –""Shut the fuck up Damian." I hissed interrupting him from his poor acting skills. I inhaled sharply then turned to him. "The villains that you have seen growing up on television are not the same as being the leader of hell."
"What's the difference really?" He asked. I was taken aback by his question. Was he joking? The annoying and yet impressive part about Damian was that he was fearless. Even so that he wasn't afraid of me and always knew how to shut my mouth which I didn't like.
"One could be reality." I replied. "Never mind. You'll see what I'm talking about during the mission.""Awesome." He said enthusiastically like I had said that we were both going to get some ice-cream.
I paused at that and slowly turn to his excited face again.
"By the time we get back you'll be begging for Malcolm to hurry up with the way to fix this." I warned. If Damian proved himself to be useless I might step in and operate in the shadows.I didn't like being anyone's sidekick, but if being so meant protecting hell from those halo heads then it was a sacrifice I was willing to make. That human will fail and he will be the cause the world comes to an end.
"Great!" He yelled shooting his right arm in the air startling me.
"Fuck." I hissed then held my chest where my heart was racing."Let's go." Damian said oblivious of what he had done to me. Maybe he was aware but he was pretending not to be.
"Why are you so enthusiastic?" I asked with a slight infuriated tone.
"Why are you so hesitant?" Damian asked in a challenging tone then smirked. "Why? Are you afraid that the student might become the master?""You are only cocky now. When we –"
"You don't know that." Damian heckled me. I stared at him in disbelief with my eyes widened. "I am running out of patience Chase. If you can stop stalling, can we get this over and done with?" He asked. That damn human.
"Fine." I said. I held his wrist firmly then snapped my fingers.––––––––––––––––––––––––
After we arrived I looked over my shoulder to see Damian look nauseous and dizzy. I smiled triumphantly.
"I have my own key." He said then bent down to touch his knees.
"I know." I said smirking and slowly rolled my eyes.
"Is this because I bruised your ego earlier?" Damian asked while straightening himself."No." I replied then walked past him to the house which was our location. "There is a man there and his name is Fred. He recently murdered his co-worker and right now he's laying low while the police are investigating."
I turned to Damian who was staring at the house with a calculating look on his face.
"Okay." He said then turned to me. "What do I have to do?""You can either one: possess his deceased co-worker and haunt him, two: you can whisper his fears of being caught, and three –"
"I can just convince him to sell me his soul in exchange for peace. Except it won't be actually peace." He heckled me.I paused at that and slowly turned to him.
"What?" I cried.
"Trick him into selling his soul. I can give him the promotion if he wants. It will be easy. All I have to do is whisper to his boss and even go as far as influence his dreams. Then after that I will have his soul." He explained like it was a normal day in a life for him as human. I don't know, but that did scare me to some extent.♣️
Damian
It was amusing to see Chase so frustrated, confused, and afraid. From what I heard he hardly was afraid but seeing like that did give me a boost in my ego.
I was bullshitting the entire time. I was scared. Terrified. As much as I did finish reading that damn book I still didn't feel ready. Though, I wanted to show Chase that I wasn't a pathetic human that he thought I was. But he was right to some extent.
"You can't trick people like that into selling you their soul." He said with every word of his laced with fear and worry.
"I can." I argued. "It's on page five hundred and ten. Angels can do the same, but they have to return it back after the mortal learnt a valuable lesson or something." I swallowed a laugh as his face fell further. I had him wrapped around my finger. This was going to be fun."Okay, but for the purpose of this exercise you are not going to do that." The devil said.
"Why? Are you scared?" I asked mockingly. His jaw ticked for probably the tenth time that day and I was dying to laugh at his priceless face."You're only going to do the last option that I was going to say. Torment his soul and leave. That's all." He said avoiding to answer my question.
I was curious if he was genuinely scared that I was 'okay' with this or he was scared that I might like being a devil and never want to go back to my normal life after Malcolm found a way to fix the mess and someone else will rule hell and not me anymore. Chase had nothing to worry about though. I wasn't cut out to be a devil. I was only faking it till I made it.
I nodded quietly then we approached the house.
"I wonder if police are onto him or something." I said.
"Most likely." Chase replied then turned to the door. "He did do a terrible job and very soon he might be arrested. I chose the weak ones for you because that's what you are." I rolled my eyes. No, he was more worried of me liking the job as a devil."Wait. You're just going to knock on the door?" I asked incredulously.
"Yes. We're not criminals trying to rob his house Damian." Chase replied. "Before he opens the door you must open the gate to hell with your bracelet because that's the only way to be able to enter his soul for you." I turned to the bracelet and waved my other hand above it like Malcolm had instructed to me once.Black foggy smoke materialized around the bracelet and began to engulf my hand then my body slowly.
"What are you going to do?" I asked while I could still see him through the black smoke.
"I'm just going to watch." Chase said with a smirk. The black smoke engulfed me. I only saw was the black smoke around me before my vision faded into darkness. ✓Please vote ❤️
