A/N: This chapters a little bit rough, this takes place during the Late Cenozoic era, you know what that means..! Bye bye, dinosaurs!

SHIPS: None explicitly written.
TIMELINE: Late Cenozoic Era | 66 million years ago
PERSPECTIVE: Third person, Luna's POV.

- The ending is left ambiguous, but you can probably tell what happens next.. or not!

- I'm not gonna refer to them as their mythological names, just how they're called in the show right now since it's just easier for me to keep track of.

- They... might be out of character? I'm sorry if they are, I'm just not sure how their personality would be in the past.

- SHORT CHAPTER! But I do sincerely hope it's enough? 👀 I think I'm getting worse at writing angst, I'm gonna just hope this is still good.

The atmosphere was tinged with the scent of dust and cold, clean winds. Earth was running ahead of Luna in their orbit, rather eager after a small game of Asteroid Dodgeball. There had been a specific asteroid that they'd noticed lately, but they chalked it up as some weird space event. But Earth did try being a little more careful around it, as Luna had instructed.

God, if only they were a bit more lucky.

The asteroid's impact was cataclysmic. A blinding flash, a deafening roar, and then a shroud of darkness. Earth's surface cracked and bled fire, his skies choked with ash and dust.  Luna stumbled upon himself, his ears ringing. He couldn't tell if he was screaming Earth's name or not, it was all so dark—

The words curled in Luna's throat, and they just wouldn't leave his mouth. Finally, Luna found the strength to shout for the first person he thought of. "MARS!" he sounded too frantic to even sound like his voice- was it his? "Please, h-"

Loud footsteps echoed throughout his ears before he could even finish his sentence as a familiar larger form came into shape. It was all blurred, but he could faintly recognize it as Mars. "Oh god," the steps faltered, only for a second, his eyes almost dimming at the sight. "Earth-"

And he was rushing to them, nearly falling over himself as he went. He sunk beside Luna, trying to do something for Earth. Luna could tell through the rapid, somewhat controlled breathing that Mars was trying his best to stay calm. A sharp breath. "It went past his atmosphere," Mars confirmed, the weight of his words feeling like a heavy stone sinking into Luna's core. "It hit his surface already."

"Forget about that for now!" Luna commanded, eyes flying to his friend desperately. "Try to stop the bleeding-"

Mars nodded, setting his brow and jaw as he shoved off his coat, balling it in his hands. He knew exactly when Mars had made contact. He felt Earth flinch violently, could feel the ripple of pain that flew through him as he gave a cut-off shout. Luna had to close his eyes. He drew in a shaky breath, but it didn't feel like it fulfilled him. He still felt like he was coming up incredibly short in the area of breathing as something clenched in his chest.

"Please let me do something," Luna whispered helplessly, hands shaking. "Please."

"Find Venus," Mars murmured grimly, his own lips pressing in something akin to despair. "It hit him right in the head, I don't think..." he trailed off, and Luna's world came crashing down.

This wasn't- this was wrong. He didn't deserve this, nobody did. Red was staining on Mars' hands. Too much of it. Far too much.

Luna finally nodded, and ran off to find Venus. He had to be somewhere- goddammit. "Venus- VENUS!" he screamed, his voice hoarse. He thought he saw the familiar shape, and without even speaking words he grabbed him by the hand and dragged him towards where Earth was. He faintly heard Venus' yells of protest and confusion, but Luna couldn't answer any of them.

Venus came to a halt in front of Earth, and Luna could swear he felt himself stop breathing. "FUCK!" Venus rasped out, his voice ringing in Luna's ears. "Earth, if you die, I'll make your life a living hell- stay with me, dammit!" he dropped to his knees, supporting Earth's head while Mars tried to do his best for the injuries.

Mars' hands dropped. "I can't do anything, it's not stopping-" he said hopelessly. He sat back, his head down as if he didn't want to see this.

Fear that Luna hadn't seen yet flooded over Earth's face. Luna could tell he was getting weaker, his mind more hazy. He could see the way his eyes were going unfocused.

"Then what-" Venus tried, feeling utterly helpless.

"Just stay," Earth demanded- pled?- as he glared into their eyes. This was the first time he spoke since the asteroid hit him. That would've been great, if it didn't sound so utterly awful. "Stay with me. Don't leave me alone."

Venus' breath stuttered. "Don't you dare start acting like this is the last time we'll ever see you. You're gonna survive this, and you can go back to being the annoying prick that I've known to care about—"

With a slow, accepting breath, Luna reached over and interweaved their fingers. Earth only gripped back tighter. "I won't. I'm not leaving," Luna replied shakily.

"Hey." Earth spoke up, this was specifically directed towards Luna. The world around them blurred. "Best of moons and best of brothers."

Luna gave a wavering smile, trying to hold Earth close to him. His core clenched as Earth felt weaker than before. "You know it."

"Good." Earth replied, his grip loosening on Luna's hand. His eyes fell shut. "Good."
