We were interrupted not long after that by a soft knocking at the door. I looked up to see Karen and Shelley Poole in the doorway. "Vic?" asked Karen. I nodded. I didn't trust myself to speak. I was clearly useless in front of famous people.
"We thought we'd better come and say Hello" said Shelley.
"Oh hi Ro, Gregg" she said as she spotted the two of them. "We were wondering if you'd have a look at this for us" said Karen handing me a couple of sheets of paper. "It's the song we've been working on. But we er, got a bit stuck with the last bit. We were wondering if you could finish it off for us" I nodded as I took the paper from her.
"Yeah we like to give our rejects away" laughed Shelley. I laughed. "Thanks.. I think" I mumbled.
"Anyway, we better go and start the new task for today" she said. "Maybe you could join us for lunch?" added Karen.
"Thanks. That'd be nice" I said, managing to speak a coherent sentence finally. "Bye guys. see you later" they waved as they walked out the door.
"You ok Vic?" Ronan was smirking at me. "Fine" I muttered. "You know, I've not seen those two in years. They did a tour with us once".
"Really?" I asked, thinking I couldn't remember that.
"Yeah I think it was a European gig, somewhere in France"
Ok that made sense now. "Ah ok"
"Yeah and Karen went out with Mick for a while" I nearly fell off my chair.
"Really?" this was news to me as well. Ronan laughed at the look on my face. "No one really knew, it wasn't exactly the romance of the century. I think they were only together for a few weeks"
Ah ok.
"He like girls called Karen then?" I asked jokingly. Trying to ignore the insane feeling of jealousy, that had suddenly come over me.
Ronan laughed, "Yeah, maybe. Although to be fair, he's not had much luck with the latest one"
I looked at him curiously. "I thought they were getting married?" I asked, trying not to appear too interested.
"Oh they were, before she dumped him for some male dancer"
"That's awful" I said sympathetically. "
"He'll get over it" laughed Ro. "he's a big boy"
I laughed, "yeah but still, being left for someone else isn't a nice experience" I said. "No I can imagine it's not"
"Are you ok Vic?" he asked suddenly. I swallowed as I tried to fight the doubt in my mind over Rick. I mean it was me that had left him, not the other way around, but.. I tried to tell myself that he had changed, for the better.
"I'm fine" I smiled.
"Now where were we?"
Ronan seemed to be in a hurry to leave after lunch, and said he'd come back in the morning to go through some stuff.
"Don't worry Ro, we don't really need you" I felt bad about him coming in every day when he wasn't going to be properly credited for his input. "Anyway where are you off to in such a hurry?"
"Oh, I have a date" he said with a grin.
"Oh" I said quietly. Not sure why I should be bothered by this, but I was. "Have a nice evening then"
"And you" he winked at me on his way out the door.
"Bye Ro" I said, and hoped he hadn't noticed me blushing.
When I went round to Rick's that night, he was stood in his hallway, all dressed up in a dark suit and crisp white shirt. Obviously waiting for me.
He looked gorgeous and it was all I could do to stop myself from jumping on him. "You look amazing" I said as I walked over to him and gave him a kiss.
"Hmmm, you're not so bad yourself" he teased as I put my bag down on the floor and he pulled me into his embrace. "Oh I look a mess" I complained.
"Well...we're celebrating, so I'm taking you out for dinner. Car's coming in fifteen"
"What?!" "But I have nothing to wea-"
"Ah, but I've bought you a surprise" he said and spun me round, putting his hands over my eyes,
"Now, no peeking" he commanded. I giggled. He led me up the stairs carefully and into his bedroom, removing his hands gently from my eyes.
