It was on yet another trip to the pub about a month or so later, that I found myself in conversation with Mikey. He looked a little upset, staring into his pint as if he had the weight if the world on his shoulders.

We'd become good friends through the studio work, I didn't like to see him down, so I went over and sat myself down at his side.

"Hey are you ok?" He nodded at me.

"Hey where's Rick?" I looked at him confused, then realised he probably didn't know that we'd broken up. Because of what he'd done to both Gregg and I, his name was rarely mentioned in the studio.

"Oh, we broke up" I said.

"Bloody men!" I added forcefully.

Ooops. I hadn't actually meant to say that out loud.

"Bloody women!" Mike agreed seriously and then laughed.

I looked at him concerned, "Ok, come on, what has she done?"

"Nothing" he sighed.

"Oh come on Mike, you can tell me" He looked embarrassed. "She stood me up"

I looked shocked. "Oh my god. What the hell did she do that for?!"

"I don't know" he smiled ruefully, "she wanted me to give her another chance but.."

"I hope you told her where to go" I said bluntly.

Mike was a lovely guy, he didn't deserve to be treated like that. "Oh, I did" he laughed bitterly.

"Guess that makes me single now too" he turned and caught my eye I swallowed and nodded, suddenly not able to speak.

"Another?" he asked and pointed to my nearly empty wine glass. "Erm, yes please, I will actually"

"Thank you"

"Not a problem" he smiled for the first time that evening.

It was some time later that the landlord called for last orders. And Gregg had the bright idea that we should take the party somewhere else.

"Hey! Let's go to O'gogartys" suggested Ronan, whilst Amy glared at me. I resisted the urge to glare back, and instead smiled sweetly at her.

"Really?"

"Won't it be packed?"

"Well yeah, but..."

"Guess we may as well drown our sorrows a little more" said Mike catching my eye. "Why not" I found myself smiling and agreeing with him. But I wasn't in any hurry to move. I watched as Ronan and Amy got up from the table hand in hand.

"Makes you sick doesn't it?" whispered Mike  in my ear.

I swallowed. "Yeah" I whispered back.

More than you will ever know, I thought to myself.

Not really sure why Ronan was still having this effect on me.

"Come on then" said Mike standing up and offering me his hand. "Let's go and get drunk" I looked at his offered hand, put my hand in his and smiled at him gratefully. He helped me up, then let go of my hand.

For some reason I felt disappointed by this. But then he slipped his arm around my shoulder and his touch gave me goose bumps. I swallowed and told myself to breathe. I'd be bloody passing out on him again if I wasn't careful.

As if he sensed my sudden nervousness he squeezed my shoulder gently and asked if I was ok. "Of course" was my rapid response. I didn't want him to know the effect that he was having on me.

O'gogartys was far too busy to even contemplate, we should have called it a night really, but Ro decided we should carry on drinking.

"Right, come on, drinks back at mine" said Mike spontaneously, as we  were trying to contemplate where else we could go.

"Great idea!" said Ronan. "We can crawl home from there"

I laughed, Mike and Ronan lived fairly close to each other, and neither of them  lived that far away from me.

But their houses, were in a different league to mine entirely
