I got up the next day later than scheduled and wished I'd taken paracetamol before I'd gone to bed. It might have gone some way at least to stop the pounding in my head that was making me want to go back to bed. I dragged myself into the shower and forced myself to get dressed.

I glanced at the clock on the TV as I picked up my bag and realised I'd already missed breakfast. I sighed and went next door to see if Gregg had already left. I knocked on his door and there was no answer. They must have all been the studio already.

Shit!!

I went down in the lift to the reception and asked if they could book me a taxi to the Polydor studios, they were very obliging and less than ten minutes later I was in the back of a black cab on my way to the studios. When I got there I spoke to the bloke on reception who pointed in the direction of the right recording studio, followed the signs in the corridor until I got to studio 5.

I pushed open the door cautiously in case they were in the middle of something, but was hit by a wall of silence. "Hello?" I called out quietly as I entered the studio and let the door shut behind me. "Hello?"

There was no one about. Surely I couldn't have been the only person to actually be up yet?!

 "Vic!"

I jumped a mile as I heard the door slam and footsteps behind me. I turned around to see Ronan grinning at me.

"Hey" I said as I took in his slightly dishevelled appearance. "You look like I feel" I joked. He mock scowled at me and I laughed.

"So are we the only ones that actually made it today?" I asked, suddenly nervous at the thought of being alone with him. "No. Gregg's here somewhere and Mick came in earlier, but I think he's gone now"

"I thought you were all gonna be annoyed with me" I laughed, "I kind of wish hadn't jumped out of bed so quick now. My head is killing me!!"

Ronan laughed softly. "I know that feeling well"

"Hey, come and have a listen to this" he said as he took my hand and led me across the studio. He sat down at the mixing desk and twiddled a few knobs. I smiled as Ronan's voice filled the studio. "That sounds amazing!!"

"Doesn't it?" I turned around and grinned at Gregg. "Alright?"

"I've been better" he mumbled and I laughed. He looked more hung-over than me and Ronan put together.

"Right Ro, I want to try and start on nothing without you this afternoon if that's ok?"

"Sure" Ronan nodded. "I just need to sort a few things out, then I'll be with you" said Gregg. I took a seat at the other end of the mixing desk and watched as Ronan let himself to a sound booth and started messing around with papers and stuff in there. He looked up and caught me eye and I blushed as he winked at me.

Then suddenly I heard him switch on the mic and the static of the speakers echoed around the room. I looked at him as he began to sing softly.

What was he up to?
